...under DBA i used to field slavic armies. Now under Trump: ...the army is nearly the same. But there are important differences; the leaders of slavic armies are mounted but not as cavalery but as javelin javalry: ...and there is also e weak archer element, like a horde called bow levy. That army did defeat a trankish army and be undependant of the Avars...

Southeastern Slovenia, somewhere in the vicinity of Novo Mesto. Was told in Slovenia that Jankovič (maternal grandfather) is more Croatian or Serb, but just on the Slovene side of the border visited the village of Jankoviči... And a search on a genealogy site did find a couple of names in the Novo Mesto area as well. Name search for Pirč (paternal) had the same result. Pity so many records were lost in the 40s...

...so i did cross Slovenia several time by train from Switzerland to Athens, with a long stop Ljubljana. That has been the 1st step in former Yugoslavia. A few years ago reworking a german translation to DBA there were huge problems withh the Slavic lists. Under DBA3 the lists changet completely. But there are not only Slavs 3/1 but also Croatian & Serbian 3/26 to reflect for a carantanian army. All that is for house rules only. There are a few facts only & that are Frankish sourses...

Slovenia is a beautiful country, lots of rolling hills, forests and mountains.... An excellent place for such an army to defeat the Franks and stifle the spread of Avars.

My mother, siblings and I visited in 1999. Did a little over a week staying at three of the 'tourist farms' - one in the west, middle and east of the country. Much too short...
As noted a beautiful country and my mother apparently learned her recipes well from her mother because the food was just like what I grew up eating.
I would like to go back again with my siblings children.
P.S. Amusingly, I read some time ago that as a 3rd generation 'expatriate' that if I could find gainful employment there I could get citizenship after a specific residence time. Been a while since I checked the economy as to whether that would be a good move. It would be nice though to have a base in Europe from which I could visit all of the historic sites...

...so you are not living in Europe? But you are right, food in eastern Europe is a little bit different eastern E. I always enjoy bohemian food. Living in the german part of Switzerland my homepage is in german. There are many facts about Slavic warfare for wargamers; DBA & also other rules like ADG & Triumph as wll as scirmishrules: www.tabletopinzuerich.ch/saga2/slawen.html + www.tabletopinzuerich.ch/saga2/slawe2.html There is also a chronoligical list of slavic teritories. All you need is a translaion program...
