The Numidian army list II/40 allows 2 Roman trained foot, either javelinmen (4Ax) or imitation legionaries (4Bd).
Can I ask what figures people use for these, as the list covers the period 215 BC - 24 AD so covers the Polybian, Marian and Early Imperial Roman lists?
Thanks

Thanks Numidian javelinmen (4Ax) 213 BC – 118 BC, Syphax, Masinissa and Micipsa used them. Imitation legionnaires (4Bd) after 56BC, Juba. I would suggest a mix of standard javelin types (Ps) with others wearing helmet becoming better equipped by the time of the Third Punic War. Imitation legionnaires would possibly have a similar appearance to a Marian kit, but consider also a Seleucid or Ptolemaic look.

I've ordered Numidians from Baueda Marian Roman range. The imitation legionaries will be the Unarmoured legionary figures (AUC10). For Roman trained foot, I'm using the standard Ps figures but adding the foot command figures as the 4th. It works for me.
Cheers

FIB makes a pack of Imitation Numidian Legionnaires. Unfortunately for DBA, the FIB packs come 24 to the pack.

Thanks for all the responses.
Because of that I've realised that I already have some spare painted Essex Carthaginian Heavy Libyan foot MPA78, which look very similar to the imitation legionaries in Lesp1964's picture and were fortunately painted mainly in red, so they have now been transferred!
I'm not so worried about having the 4Ax but am sure I can find something that will do if needed.
Thanks again for the replies.

If you were to base the Bd on 20mm depth they can double as 4Ax without having to provide figures- mine are a mix of javelin and sword armed, from Donnington, and do either role, depending how I declare them pre-game.

Nice idea Martin but they're already on 15mm deep bases, as they come from a part completed DBM army from some time ago when 20mm deep bases for solid foot wasn't normal.

I like Martin’s thinking. Just place a thin 40mm x 20mm piece of card under your existing bases, fill in the extra 5mm depth with Milliput or putty, then paint and flock the extra bit as normal. Wallah!...a 15mm deep base has been converted to 20mm deep. I’ve done this to all my foot elements, as 20mm deep has sooo many advantages:- * no more figure overhanging, preventing bases from making flush contact... * all foot will recoil the same distance, ½ a BW, negating enemy overlaps... * it reduces the effects of ‘X-Ray Threat Zones’... * and it even helps them to stay upright on steep slopes... What’s not to like?

Quick follow up to this older post. What color would people make imitation legionary shields? I’ve seen red but also interestingly, black. Is black written somewhere? I like the look of it, but perhaps it’s just to differentiate them from Romans…
