Okay, so I have these Ghaznavid armoured camel rider figures and Bactrian camels...what to do with them? (Mikes Models, of course!)
They were cast for the Ghaznavid Mounted Infantry that were a staple of Ghaznavids back in the days of WRG 6th Ed. No such elements in DBA. (Sigh.) I don't want to go entirely astray by creating Mtd Inf elements. Is there an idea, however, in the DBMM list for some out-of-the-box, figure-mounting that I might consider? WRG 6th hints that camels may have been interspersed with Ghulam cavalry. Something like that could work and look exotic while still staying within the confines of DBA basing. Elephant escorts? Ideas welcome, please.

The only thing I can think of is to use them as camp guards. Having a couple of them guarding the entrance to the general's tent might look both intimidating and exotic.

Or like you suggested Paul mix them into the Cavalry elements if that works visually?
I remember Greenwood & Ball (Garrison) miniatures releasing their Ghaznavid range back in the day that were advatised in the Battle Wargames magazine. I'm sure there were also s dismounted Camels intended for the infantry as mounted infantry were permitted in some lists by the WRG rules at the time.

Ideas welcome, please. Paul, Phil Masters in his three-part series in Slingshot (73,74, 75), mentions the use of camels to mount infantry for fast moving campaigns against the Turks. At the introduction of DBA, mounted infantry (Mtd-inf) was an unknown concept. Later versions integrated the troop type but few or none championed the idea for the Ghaznavid. Strange though, their enemies the Turks (III/11b) do field archers on Bactrian camels (Mtd-3Bw).

Thanks for the replies. Yes, "Snowcat's" suggestion simply to use them as imposing camp guards is probably the best use for them.
Robert, I'm just speculating here, but it could be that Sue, Phil and the cognoscenti that created the V-3 lists dismissed the idea of Mtd-Inf elements for them on the rationale that maybe they just rode them while chasing the Seljuks from one DBA game (err, battle) to another, and perhaps they couldn't find indications that they rode them tactically on the battlefield. Again, just speculation on my part.
If I find some potsherd (or old Slingshot issue) that does support the idea of Ghaznavid Mtd-Inf in battle, then I can always create a scenario game to include them.

Well Paul, the III/64b Later Ghaznavids (1002-1186 AD) can have the III/10b Rajputs (with 1 x Cm) or the III/11b Other Turks (1 x Camel Mtd-3Bw) as allies.
That’ll get at least one element of camels deployed on the table...

Perfect solution, Stevie. Thanks! I'd never considered that since our local group has so far ignored "Allies". (Not that we're opposed the idea...just never embraced the idea.)
