Following on from the Marian Roman Helmets thread, I began wondering about my EIR Cavalry. I have them in steel with red shields to match the red shields of the Legionaries. My Auxilia are in grey with grey shields and steel helmets which I will very shortly be painting bronze.
I would like to change the cavalry shield colours, any good suggestions and also would they have had bronze helmets as I believe Roman Cavalry were mainly auxiliaries?
Any suggestions as to colour for the auxilia troops, grey does seem a bit dull?

Blue or green seem like they would provide a good contrast with the regular legionnaires.

These have a variety of colour (brown, tan, red, green, yellow) with various motifs painted in black, yellow or white. With 15mm scale figures you can manage the swirls, torquatas, bolts, stars and crescents. www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?330891-Roma-Surrectum-II-presents-The-Roman-Auxilia/page4Trajan’s Column in colour gives some interesting options. duckduckgo.com/?q=recolored+trajans+column+national+geographic&t=h_&iar=images&iax=images&ia=images

EIR cavalry helmets were a mix of iron and bronze. Google it, there's loads of examples.

As I said in a previous post, I like to have my Imperial Auxiliary Cavalry wearing old fashioned second-hand cheap bronze helmets, while the Imperial Knights have nice shiny brand new expensive silver helmets, as that is a good way of telling them apart, since both element types have 3 figures per base. (I just happen to think that silver looks more ‘butch’ )
