I have been playing solo battles set in the Italian Wars. I have been trying out rule sets namely "Maximillian" Version 2 and DB-RRR.
My conclusion is that for my one off battles and campaigns I will use DB-RRR.
I enjoyed "Maximillian" but the requirement for 24+ elements each side made the games drag on a little. Although DBX based, the rules allowed for following up or pursuing elements to continue combat in the same turn. which lead to some units racing ahead and their neighbours going the other way.
As I said I like the rules and will play them again but DB-RRR will be the go to rules.
My only question on DB-RRR is whether Arquebus should be classed as shot 4-4 or Bow 2-4?
I also thought about classing Arquebus as a separate element using 3-3.
Thoughts anyone?

I have not come across any reference during the Italian Wars of shot trained well enough to deliver effective volley fire to qualify for a CF of 4-4. The Spanish were ahead of the other nations in this respect but they made effective use of terrain obstacle to disorder their opponents. A CF of 3-3 would seem a good compromise.

I have doing them as a 3-3... but making them inferior and giving them side support with pike.
This works better in a larger game, but worth a try in a 12 vs 12 matchup.
