with Ambush, the way I see it is that you can leave 2 elements off the table in order for the enemy player to not know whether you actually have an ambush or not, it could be a bluff and you dont even have the card. they'd have to play very differently if there was the possibility of some important troops appearing out of nowhere. probably better for many situations to not be 2 elements down, but then again its not always possible for an ambush to be executed successfully, so its a risk you have to take. Also the use of the 'scouts' card can counter, as if you've taken an element or 2 off the table when you don't even have the card, they can use the scout card to see that you dont have any ambush card, and can fight knowing that you dont have an ambush coming

Question: could a “Hold Fast” card be used to prevent a pursuit? I don’t see why not.

Hi stevie you mean you cancel your own unit to pursui , exemple cancelling you PK to pursui enemy this way your line remain even. i think yes but this card can be only play once
Regarding Ambush i was thinking that units involved into the ambush can be put apart on the back faced card but how to select the terrain to set the ambush? a little piece of paper? your opponent will know that something is going to happen,
i will rather deploy unit as normal and then 2 to 3 unit can sudenly be placed (teleportation!) into badgoing/forest etc terrain when the ennemy is less than 1BW from the terrain or touching the terrain.
