I have recently purchased Start Ancient Wargaming Using DBA 3.0 and have enjoyed reading it. I decided to build the armies she used as a sample in the book. I looked up Conflict 16: Romans against the Germans and I could believe she was using II/49 for the Romans and II/47d Cherusci for the Germans. I reviewed the lists to figure out what miniatures I needed and reviewed her pictures of the armies to make sure I had an understanding of the basing, etc.
I decided to get the full rulebook De Bellis Antiquitatis v3.0 and was looking around at the different army lists. I went to II/47b and II/49 and I think II/47b is different than Start Ancient Wargaming.
The II/47b list in DBA3 shows 2 x heroes with long spears (4Wb) but doesn't show the option for 2 x Warriors (3Wb). Am I reading this wrong?
Here is what she had in the text part of the book for the armies:
Roman Army 1 general in an element of legionaries (4Bd)
1 element of LH with javelins
7 elements of Legionaries (4 Blades to each element)
2 elements of Skirmishers (2 psiloi)
1 element of cavalry
German Army 1 general with an element of Cavalry
9 elements of Warband (3 of each element)
2 elements of Skirmishers (2 psiloi) armed with Javelins
I hope this makes sense.
Thanks.
Scott

Welcome to the Fanaticus forum! The go to forum for the discerning DBA wargamer. Sometimes called the Bide-a-Wee home for the perpetually bewildered I am not sure on this. Hopefully someone better acquainted with both books than myself will be along shortly. Watch this space as they say!

Which rule book do you have? (Hardback or softback?)
In the original hardback, II/47(b) is Arovistus' Army in 58BC: 1 x 4Wb(Gen), 2 x Cv, 8 warriors (4Wb) and 1 x skirmishers ((Ps).
II/47(d) is "Other Batavian or Cherusci": 1 x Cv General, 7 x warriors (3Wb), 2 x skirmishers with sheaves of fire-hardened wooden javelins and then a choice of either 2 x heroes with long spears (4Wb) or 2 more warriors (3Wb) (or one of each).
Sue appears to have opted for the all warrior version for this scenario.

My II/47(d) says: II/47d Other Batavian or Cherusci Army: 1 x General (Cv), 2 x heroes with long spears (4Wb), 7 x warriors (3Wb), 2 x skirmishers with sheaves of fire-hardened wooden javelins. (Ps) So if I am understanding this correctly, the softback book is missing the or 2 more warriors (3Wb) (or one of each) part. Here is an image of the listing: imgur.com/TyfI0uwThanks. Scott

I don't understand how a print-on-demand version can fail to reproduce the original, but this isn't the first discrepancy between the two that I've heard of. I shall let Sue know about this one and see if she can get it corrected in any future versions.
Thanks - and welcome to the forum.

I have to say I was not expecting this to be the answer. Thanks for clarifying! Scott
