Hi!
so i would like to present you the DBA modules done for Tabletop simulator (TTS).
i'm not the leader of the team who made the main work on this module,
but i try to help them as much as possible, so i decided to communicate a little on this forum where maybe some of you could be interested...
all my apologies of my approximative English!
- First what is Tabletop simulator?
Tabletop simulator is a simulation of a tabletop.
it has tens of thousands of Steam Workshop contributions from the community.
you can create your own games with nothing more than a handful of images to import.
it is on Steam platform (so you'll need to have a Steam account) and cost around 20€ (you can play a lot more other games on TTS)
but i want to say that we are not part of TTS team, we don't earn anymoney on this, it was modules made by players for players.
- We are happy to announce the release of the new DBA scripted mods for Tabletop Simulator.
it was our response to the situation of players who could no longer play with friends due to the Covid event. (it was also a way to occupy our time and our minds, and still playing with friends! )
And we think that there is some interesting possibilities for players who are far away on our Earth,
maybe adding some specific tournaments or having players playing reallife tournaments games without moving from their home,
if they don't have the possibility to move or if they are too far away for example...
but, mainly, it was just created to play with friends!
- i also wanted to add that TTS possibilities do not mean that you don't need the official rules,
we'll not provide the rules into our workshop (sometimes on other TTS workshops you'll find the entire rules of a game, i think it's not a good idea, as the real author of the game
will not earn money if you don't buy the rules, but it's a matter of honesty...)
these DBA modules also are opensource.
- There are 2 modules, one for DBA 2.2 and one for DBA 3.0
these modules are free, you just have to push the subscribe button on the right Steam TTS workshop.
after, just run TTS, choose to create or join a server, select the workshop you want (2.2 or 3.0) and you can play alone or invite friends...
there will be no IA on that modules, so you cannot play against computer.
there is some scripting into the game in order to snap base, displaying TZ, shooting and moving Gizmo, calculate and display movment distance,
display Wheel moves, display dice result, moving units with defined distance... lot of nice stuff to help players to manage their virtual units!
there will be 3 differents display of units on the DBA modules :
- first will be flat bases with unit drawing and combat factors (mainly to have clearer view of the units and also made for slower computers)
- secondly some armies will have 3d units mesh (especially on book IV) made in classic 3d modelling.
- third, we plan to add 3d Scans of our beloved painted armies, so you'll have the possibility to play like in the real game with our figs.
the workflow to do these 3d armies is quite time consuming,
(taking lot of pictures of each units, let the computer... compute , optimizing the polygons of the 3d mesh, importing it in TTS in order to reput these on bases...)
but the result is quite nice, of course, it will take some time to do all armies!
for now we have Carthaginians and Camillian Romans and soon ( ) Seleucides (so more and less all armies around Macedonians and Successors),
next, Indians Classic, other Romans period armies, Greek Hoplites, Ancient Spanish, Thracians...
it's an exciting project, and we'll try to add things to get as close as possible to a real DBA battle.
(next big work will be to add more realism to Terrain too)
