I have an old PC Laptop with XP still running. I never thought about trying to download the top-down elements. How easy is it to find them?

Ah...well now...there’s not an easy answer to that I’m afraid Captainblood.
If you go to your C-drive → DBA Online → Figures → you’ll see a very long list of figure folders, each containing the following:-
1.BMP file 2kb in size (a single black & white figure silhouette) 1.JPG file 4kb in size (a coloured version of the 1.BMP file?) 1_face.JPG file 22kb in size (the facing and orientation instructions) s1.BMP file 1kb in size (a smaller picture of the 1.BMP file) s1.JPG file 2kb in size (a smaller picture of the 1.JPG file)
..but these are not much use as only the BMP files can be opened (the others are “not a valid JPEG-JFIF file”, so can’t be got at)...and even then the two BMP files that can be accessed are merely black & white top-down individual figure silhouettes and not whole elements in colour.
The only way I found (when I had an old XP operating system) was to actually set up a DBAOL game and take a screen-shot by pressing Ctrl+PrtSC (control key and print screen simultaneously), then pasting it into a paint app (Windows Paint will do)... ...but as you can imagine, doing this for every single element in every single army is a bit of a laborious procedure.
(Note that the rather nice looking maps are all proper JPG files, that can be opened)

I do know some great artists who can draw very accurate pictorial representations of fighting units.

That is an excellent find Dav3377 👍 (and welcome to Fanaticus by the way). However, it doesn’t show the top-down overhead element views, but is still very useful nonetheless, and highly recommended. Greedo, if you are reading this, it’s a must for the Fanaticus Wiki.
