I know some of Xyston's 15mm ranges are so out-of-scale that they are the poster boys of scale creep, while other ranges of theirs are reasonably compatible with Essex, OG, and others that fit within the general, industry standards. At the risk of asking an inherently subjective question, are either of these two Xyston ranges within reason? - Ariarathid Kappadokian
- Achaemenid Persian
Pics of them on their website look really good. I'll sample one or both ranges, unless a consensus says, basically, why bother. --Cuz friends don't let friends support scale creep.

Been a while since I got them and they are packed away (will take a look later to see if I can dig them up).
However, when I got the Persians they were compatible with the Macedonians I got at the same time - pretty creepy scale wise. Not Essex compatible at any rate.
Only one pack of the Kappdokian archers, but as I recall also largish.
I will try to dig them up.

The Kappadokians by Xyston are huge.
I have used some of the larger Museum Miniatures figures as mercenary hoplites for them. They work well.
Xyston's Kappadokians are clearly 18mm, if not 20mm figures. I would say that mixing with Essex is out of the question.

The Persians are pretty good, will try to take some pics today vs my Sea People/Philistines.
Dont get me wrong they are not little lads and even in the range there is some difference, the archers are a bit smaller than some of the other infantry.
Xyston and Corvus are by far my fave figs though.
I have upgraded my Seleucid Catathracts to Xyston as the MM ones I had looked like boy soldiers next to Xyston light horse.

I had no plans to mix them with any other ranges. (Folks who know me know I have this odd, "ethnic purity" thing: I don't mix ranges within a given army.) If a range is a little bigger and heftier than Essex, Khurasan, etc., I can deal with that. I just don't want something that's way out of scale. Baldie's reply suggests that the Persians might be worth sampling; the Kappies...meh, maybe not.

Hi There The Philistine/Sea people are Essex The Essex do have scale differences even in the range, the guys with spears and the nonchalant ones with swords do seem bigger even taking into account their jazzy plumes than the ones with rounded helmets. I must admit I cut off the horns as I didn't like em Difference in the mounted is more noticable but again I find many manufacturers shrink their chariot sizes and the riders presumably so the riders fit in the chariots and the chariots so they can fit on a 40x40 base The Persians were not done by me as I couldn't face em, pity as I have now done a few hundered in 6mm

Very helpful Goragrad! The Xyston figures look compatible on the game table (in opposing) armies with the other figures. EXCEPT for whatever that giant is on the right in group pic. Yikes! Fear of hat kind of scale-creep is what has prevented my from ordering Xyston figures in the past.

Should have noted that the Xyston figures were picked up off ebay or the TMP exchange so manufacturing dates probably vary quite a bit. That figure on the right is one of the middle year codes - ANC20057 - Persian Levies in Median Dress.
I have seen a post on TMP (I believe) that the latest codes have seen a reversal of the giantism that was standard for the Indian, Roman, and Gallic lines.
By the way, not sure where you are ordering from, but Brookhurst hobbies has some of the old 18XXX codes from IKore on clearance at $2.37 a pack. Not sure what the stock of those packs is, but they do have the Kappdocian Hillmen listed...
I got my Thebans from them years ago at that clearance price. Sure beats regular $5.49 price, but then they don't have the full ranges.
