If this has been asked recently and I missed it I apologize. Regarding various army lists where a quantity ( more than one) of troop "x" is given the _or_ option of troop "y" , do all the troops have to be of one type or another or can the general mix and match so long as the number of elements does not exceed that allowed. For example:
Feudal French IV/4b says:
2x feudal spearmen _or_ 2x mix weapons foot _or_ 2x Low Countries pike. Can I mix any combo of this as long as its 2 total stands?
Cheers

Been asked before, but it's certainly not a silly question! If it's the 'or' prefix (see p33), then you can mix the combinations. So, in your example, you could have 1xSp and 1x4Bd... P.

The Italian allies (III/73b) could also add possibilities to the infantry component of your French army.

Actually, the way Roland has written the options would mean they all have to be the same (both feudal spearmen or both mix weapons foot or both Low Countries pike), but the real line in the Feudal Frence list is different. It actually says
2 x feudal spearmen _or_ mix weapons foot _or_ Low Countries pike,
It is all down to where the "2x" appears. If it is a single "2x" before the list of troop types, then it is any combination. But if the "2x" appears separately before each type then you have to take 2 elements of the chosen type. (This form is rare.)

Salutations !
My father told me, many decades ago, "The only stupid question is the one you don't ask."

Actually I think Centurion nailed it with the first reply. I since have been re-reading a lot of the details of the rules. Buried within the Barkerese are mountains of rules tidbits and clarifications. Some are even pretty straight forward. DBA 3.0, Page31 Paragraph 2, sub heading "Troops Definitions and Terminology": ("or" being between 2 codes or prefix numbers directs that any mixture of those elements can be used")
I appreciate everyone's patience.
