Couple more games of DBA via Skype
EAP vs Other Greeks
Game 1 and Mark placed a couple of woods and a BUA as defender knowing his EAP had more bad going types. I had to decide to defend the narrow gap which meant only part of my spear line could deploy or fight into the gap which would mean the EAP line had a really big advantage on the flanks
I could of course have deployed in the open and gone for a draw as the Persians were unlikely to come marching into a solid spear block. But this is war so into the gap I went and deployed ready to face the Persians.
It was going ok with my 2 psiloi holding the right hand wood and the spears managed to take out some Persian bow but then a hole got punched in the line and the Greeks couldn't hold out.
Game 2 and I was AEP this time.
The Greeks got to defend and put down a couple of hills and some plough
Greeks got to deploy in a line so I tried to move round the flanks. Mark threw an amazing set of PIP rolls each of them throughout the game was a five or a six so got to spread and stop me enveloping him. My bow actually managed to take out a spear element and came close to taking out another. Poor deployment of my Cavalry commander and bad pip dice meant I did not get to exploit the gaps in the Greek line and Mr Johnson proceeded to chop me up for a 4-2 victory. I love Greek and Persian clashes almost as much as Rome vs Ancient British and it was great to get a few games in against an opponent I have see for some time.

Good effort guys. Keep the fires burning! Preferably in your opponent’s camp!

Good effort guys. Keep the fires burning! Preferably in your opponent’s camp! Currently my mission is to out hold out long enough to give my opponent a good time, then roll over at the end to give them a great time. Stevie/Cromwell no jokes re happy endings please.

Pretty certain Baldie does himself a disservice here. Pretty sure the first game was balanced at 3-3 and the battlefield being broken up into a number of induvial fights. Baldie threw a 6 on the PIP dice for me, which allowed me to throw a Persian Cav and my Persian Cav general into the front of two isolated spears and hard flank them both, one with a LH and one with a Ps. The heroic Greeks bounced both, pushing the Ps into the flank of a Horde. Next turn Baldie turned the Sp and on 4-2 recoiled the Ps thus killing it and winning the game. So we both won with the Greeks and, although I think they do have the edge on the EAP's, they were both really close games which could have gone either way and a most enjoyable night actually playing again and chatting with Baldie who I haven't seen for ages.

Those of you who have become accustomed to the cinematic delights of Tony and his chums be prepared this production is more like an Ealing Comedy than a Warner Bros Block Buster It is however one of the most enjoyable games of DBA ish I have ever played More to follow hopefully youtu.be/8xIqemTW_0o

“it’s not about winning or losing, it’s playing the game (and enjoying it) that matters.” And it’s pity your Ancient Britons had the dice gods against them, as like yourself I’m keen on Warbands...although being a ‘line-up-and-charge’ merchant, I prefer 4Wb. As no doubt you’ve checked by now, Cv are destroyed when doubled by Bd, Ps can recoil through Bd, and a 1 BW move can’t ‘hard-flank/shut-the-door’ unless the front-edge is well beyond the enemy's rear-edge. If you like interesting unusual scenarios, may I offer the following:- fanaticus.boards.net/post/10770/...which is a sort of ambush, and it’s not clear who has the advantage.

Cheers for hosting the games today Mark
Post Mongol Samurai vs Hussites
Game 1 I played the Samurai and decided to forgo the choice of the double cav general pincushion option. I had not played with or against the Hussies before so was excited for the game. Mark slaughtered me.
Game 2 I got to play the Hussites. This time Mark made me believe I could win by allowing some of his lads to get popped by bow fire from the wagons. This however was to lull me into a sense of adventure and daring do just before he capped my General for a glorious Samurai victory.
Brill games may even hav a pop at hussites as they are so different toowt else I have.

Glad you enjoyed them, (if enjoyed is the right word!) As usual Baldie is over generous in his summation. In the first game he fails to mention the numerous times he had the advantage in overlapping either my Bd or WWgs with his fast Bd and yet only once did he managed to double a WWg. I blame the person throwing the dice. In the second game the early loss of the two end Ax meant that the end of the Samurai Bd line only had WWgs out flanking it. As these can't move to contact, it meant that the Bd could charge in, safe in the knowledge they may be overlapped but couldn't be hard flanked. The Hussite Art went down to a Samurai Bd but WWg shooting accounted for another one 3-1 to the Hussites. A Samurai Bd was pushed back and back by a Hussite Flailman (Bd) element until eventually it's flank was left uncovered from the supporting WWg. A Samurai Ax lurking at the rear had just enough move to hard flank. 3-2. On the other flank a Hussite LH had unfortunately been forced to flee, uncovering the Kn general's flank and a combined Bw and Ax attack saw him go down, (the throw of 6-1 only adding insult to injury) to leave a 3G v 3 result. A couple of enjoyable, the only down side being the different rules I realised I'd forgotten in the relatively short time we've not been playing.
