hello! Wanted to stop in and introduce myself. I live in the suburbs just north of Chicago. I play lots of various tabletop games (Infinity, 40K, Relicblade, Warcry, etc etc etc). I dabbled with DBA in the early 90's when my reenactment buddy introduced me to it, and I loved it! Fast forward to the last few weeks and a friend of mine who is battling lots of health issues made some noises about dabbling in some small scale, low model count historical gaming, so I blurted out "DBA!!!" We picked out Polybian Romans and Carthaginians as our starter armies, with him taking the Romans (I really wanted an excuse to get and paint some elephants!). Started painting my army last week. So far 2 elephants and psiloi are done, with my spear troops about 90% completed. Really looking forward to chatting with you all! Cheers, Paul

Thanks all! These I did to tabletop standard as I'm more interested in getting minis on the table, though at some point I'll want to really go nuts on a nice colorful army. I've been looking through some of the painted threads here, and there is some fantastic work! On a side note, if anyone has a link, or can share some examples of what the standard foot troop of Carthage had as a shield design I'd be grateful! I bought the Essex miniatures DBA army, and these guys seem a little vague as to what they would have on their shields. I did a google search, but it's almost overwhelming. www.essexminiatures.co.uk/products/mpa76?_pos=15&_sid=1d2647098&_ss=r

There is very little information about shield blazons used during the 2nd Punic War. Size and shape are known from reliefs, but time has obliterated any sign of colour or blazon.
One can imagine before leaving Hispania, units would be very distinct as they passed by. Yet, with each successive victory in Italy, many Roman shields would be seen among the Carthaginian ranks, quite possibly with a second colour to give a different appearance.
Google Carthaginian infantry and you will certainly find enough inspiration. I use TWC (Total War Centre) for background information on various armies and Carthage has this: www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?476999-Preview-Carthage

Welcome to the forum, hope you find it useful and entertaining. Re shield patterns, try looking on the Victrix Miniatures site and click on Flags and Transfers. You can then click on Carthage (or it might be Carthaginian). You'll find several designs for circular shields. These are all meant for 28mm figures but, judging by your painting (which is of a very good standard in my opinion), you'll probably be able to simplify some of the designs so that they fit onto 15mm figures.

As for shield designs you can do worse than Little Big Men Studios for either decals or inspiration. www.littlebigmenstudios.com/product-category/15mm-transfers/essex/carthaginian/
