Watched the beginning of a Tony Agular youtube dem recently,
(Romans vs Carthagininans)
First point was how he (& His Opponent) started with neat, coherent battlelines; Many fewer questions about weird Geometries if both sides start out that way!
I believe the game works better as a "simulation" if players do so;
The assumption being both sides have decided to fight it out, (or been forced to by operational considerations) and for many ancient armies, Deployment was the most important decision for a CinC;
It still is, (was) cf the implications of the Schliefen plan, the all of Fall of France (1940), etc.
BUT, IIUC, both armies had Psiloi deployed in "rear" support;
Under 3.0 There is no "Rear Support" from Psiloi.
BUT, Psiloi (only) can now move as a Group in Rough (& Bad?) going?
Comments? Discussion?

Ah, I think this is just a matter of semantics. You are quite right Ozarkorc: Psiloi in DBA 3.0 do not give any combat bonus for being behind (but in earlier versions of DBA they did). But Psiloi can still form up as a reserve. Rear-support gives a combat bonus. A reserve allows flexibility to cover unexpected situations or new opportunities. I have my Psiloi out in front (usually), unless there is mounted or Auxiliary enemy about. However, they often recoil or flee back through my battleline and end up in reserve...whether I like it or not! But even in reserve they are still jolly useful in using their Threat Zone to prevent hard-flanking side attacks, and to temporarily fill-in any gaps in my line if nothing else is available. ("An army that still has reserves is not defeated. An army that has used-up all its reserves is facing defeat") Some Helpful Downloads can be found here: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Reference_sheets_and_epitomes And here is the latest Jan 2020 FAQ: ancientwargaming.files.wordpress.com/2020/01/dba_faq_q1_2020_final.pdf

Psiloi could also be used to extend a battleline so as to avoid getting overlaps on your most extended flank troops, and they are great at tanglefooting flanking troops by getting them in the psiloi’s threat zone and preventing any hard flanking (which is a quick kill if they beat you)

All elements may move as a group in rough going. Psiloi and elements in a column may group move in bad going. Psiloi provide no rear support in DBA 3. It is now "baked into" solid formed troop types. Mounted recoil on ties from "Solid" infantry.
Support now is side support for Spear and in some cases Bow (against foot only) and a modified rear support for Pike. Warband rear support remains about the same. Light Horse now receives rear support...simulating their capability to concentrate quickly... (Cantanbrian circle and the like).
Interestingly, DBA 3 puts a premium on not lining up. This is a large change from DBA 2.2 where canted lines could be used to great advantage against rookie and mid-level players. That gamey tactic no longer works.
