This question concerns Big Battle DBA.
If a command is demoralised do the demoralized elements of the command still have a Threat Zone ? (as they are effectively running away.)
This cropped up in a game recently where a player did not have the pips to hold some spear units and so they had to flee. At the end of the spears movement to the rear an enemy Cavalry element was in their Threat Zone.
The question was whether the Cavalry could keep on moving or be restricted by the normal rules of Threat Zones. It was argued that because they were fleeing the spears were not a serious threat to the Cavalry anymore.
Any answers on this would be very much appreciated
Thank you.

Common sense would say ‘no’, but I think the RAW would say ‘yes’...

Yes, elements in demoralized commands exert a threat zone.

Welcome to Fanaticus Jonesey13. I just want to say that I concur with both Paulisper and Joe Collins... ...I think that ‘fleeing’ elements of a demoralized command in BBDBA should exert a Threat Zone. When troops rout they could do one of three things:- They could throw away their weapons and shields and simply run for their lives. They could just give up and surrender. Or they could fight their way out with even more desperate determination in order to escape. If the Cavalry in the situation you describe see a body of men running at them, they won’t know if all of them are going to do the same thing, so they need to be on their guard and be a bit wary, just in case. (I always like to justify things in DBA, where I can, by simply putting myself in the shoes (or should that be the sandals?) of an ancient warrior. Mind you, if I was in an ancient battle, I’d probably be off at the first sight of a pointed stick...were it not for my fellow soldiers behind me with their own pointed sticks forcing me to stay in the battleline! )By the way, you might find some other useful stuff in the links below:- Some Helpful Downloads can be found here: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Reference_sheets_and_epitomes And here is the latest Jan 2020 FAQ: ancientwargaming.files.wordpress.com/2020/01/dba_faq_q1_2020_final.pdf(However, there is currently a problem with actually opening these files in the Wiki, but I should have that fixed in the next couple of hours)

Thank you all very much for the replies and the links. We played according to the rules and assumed demoralized elements do have a Threat Zone, so your replies have confirmed this. Thanks again Mike.

Ah, there is one more thing:- SECOND OR SUBSEQUENT TACTICAL MOVES DURING THE SAME BOUND [on page 9, but see also figure 5 on page 17] Some elements or groups that have already moved this bound can make a second or subsequent tactical move if there are enough PIPs and only if this does not start or go within 1 BW of enemy (unless while moving along a road) and is entirely by...etc"The above rule males no exceptions for if the enemy element is fleeing, is facing away from you, or if they are already in a Threat Zone (so couldn’t attack the element making the subsequent move). (Oh, and I’ve fixed the “Reference_sheets_and_epitomes” section of the Wiki, so those files contained in there CAN now be opened...which is nice. )
