I was considering the effect of the TZ by the rules and wondered if it was ever considered if an element could not count as an overlap in combat whilst in the TZ of an enemy element? i.e.facing a more pressing danger.
If not is there a case for it?

I don’t know Haadrada. The -1 for being overlapped could be considered a morale effect (open exposed flank, possible threat, ect). But in DBA the -1 for being overlapped mechanism is necessary to simulate a tactical advantage. Otherwise, troops with a combat factor of say 3 or more would just push each other about for no real effect, and having reserves would be a bit pointless (plus the games would last well after the pubs had closed!)

The reserves could be useful for all that pushing will leed to gaps. But a potential "lock-in" at the pub sounds excellent! 🍻

You need kills to get gaps - hence the -1 for Overlap. (A way to have a "lesser" Overlap is to have it count +1 to the friendly element rather than -1 to the opponent.)
On a related topic one of the strangest effects of X-Ray TZ's is that a reserve element caught in the TZ of a single opponent cannot move up to Overlap but if caught in two TZ's - one X-ray and the other from an Overlapping foe - then it can move up to block the Overlap suddenly seized by courage despite having twice as many foes.
(This can be easily fixed - as can most DBX problems - but I think the FAQ committed quashed the fix).
