I am relatively new to DBA. Have played some DBA 1.0 battles, now trying 3.0. I see reference in many posts about "quick kill", but no explanation about what this means, when/where it applies, etc. Can some please help me understand this?

Short-hand for a situation where an element destroys another simply by outscoring it and doesn't have to double the score for the "kill", e.g. Kn destroy Bd or Wb in Good Going.

Yes, it's a bit confusing because everybody uses the term but it can't be found anywhere in the rules.

DBA is littered with these "non-terms" I think there's a thread here somewhere where they have been gathered together but I can't place it atm

I never use the term quick-kill as there does not seem to be a time factor involved. I prefer "destroyed if beaten" or DIB for short. By the way, Phil does use the term quick-kill

thanks to everyone for your explanations of quick kill. I thought that might be the case, since I noted a couple of times where an element did that, but I wanted to make sure I'm not missing something. For simple rules I have had to go back and read them several times (did I read that correctly? I think I'm confused) kind of situations. But these rules have a certain "charm" to them and simplicity that is disarming. What looks simple at first is really so clever. I love learning more about DBA and playing the games.
P.S. I had mentioned a solo campaign for DBA I had been working on. This was under the "Questions from a new guy" thread. And then I was working on them some more so delayed my posting. I will post them shortly.

What looks simple at first is really so clever. Yes, indeed. And those "Destroyed if Beaten" (QK) situations really create the enjoyable tension in DBA as a game. Think rock, paper, scissors. It's essentially the same with Knights, Elephants and Psiloi. Look for those "QK" opportunities when facing your opponent, but know that he or she is looking for similar situations to exploit in your army. Enjoy!

Good points by Paul. Besides looking for the DIB opportunities, be careful not to waste effort on those situations. Too often a player will maneuver elements, and spend PIPs to put an element on the rear or flank of a DIB situation. This puts your flanker/rearer in a bad position and is not needed because the attacker will destroy the enemy if it wins anyway. An overlap is just as good as a flank and you keep your line intact. For example, an overlapping Warband is just as good against a Blade as a Flanker would be. Also, if you lose, the overlapper is in a safer position than the recoiling flanker might be. Of course, look for the good opportunities for a flank contact as that will cause a DIB if you win.

And don’t forget that ‘destroying-an-enemy-without-needing-to-double-their-score’ is not solely confined to the results listed in the combat outcomes chart on page 11:- * Recoiling troops are also destroyed if an enemy front-edge is in contact with their flank or rear. * If fleeing or recoiling troops cannot move at all (because of an obstacle), they too will be destroyed. * Troops are lost if they recoil or are pushed back over any table edge. * Anyone fleeing into any kind or river (even a Paltry river) will be destroyed. * Being in the way of recoiling Elephants or fleeing Scythed Chariots also causes destruction. As far as I’m concerned, anything that causes an element to be lost without having to get double their score is a ‘quick-kill’... After a couple of attempts to add the Word text of my solo campaign document to the Wiki, I looked for an easier way. I was able to create a blog and post it there. So, if interested, go to dalemunz.blogspot.com. The campaign rules are still a work in progress. I am finishing up a solo ACW campaign, then getting ready to start the solo DBA campaign again. I'm going to try adding a few new wrinkles and if they work will add to the campaign rules as they are now.
I welcome all your ideas, and criticisms too.
