I had an idea yesterday about Alexander's Hypaspists, since they are, as far as I know the "elite" troops of Alex's army. One of the things that makes them so great was their flexibility, and they have been described as Pk, Ax, Sp...
Normally this change would happen when you pick the army. I would have a choice of "4Pk or 4Ax or 4sp", BUT what if you could make that choice right after deployment, the represent the unit changing the way that it would fight in the coming fight. Say, in your first bound, you can change this "flex unit" out for another one in the given choice. A bit like dismounting mounted infantry.
Although I wouldn't advocate for swapping a 4Sp for a 4Ax half way through a battle, perhaps this kind of flexibility would be able to throw your opponent off their came and give you those crucial matchups once you've see enemy already deployed.
I don't know of any other troops that might have this flexibility, but thought it might be an interesting twist, especially if HI war weakened a bit by the -1 House Rule, this would be make it a very tactical choice what to switch into.

So, equivalent to single "/" dismounting? It's an interesting idea and minimally intrusive, I like it.

Well, from an historical point of view, we know that Macedonian pikemen would swap their pikes for javelins when assaulting a City, Fort, or Camp. (You can’t hold a two-handed 8 metre weapon when you’re half way up a scaling ladder!)This is why DBA doesn’t allow rear or side support when storming these. There is also some evidence that Macedonian pikemen under Philip and his lad Alex the Great would often swap their pikes for javelins when they were likely to fight in bad going against the Illyrians and Thracians. In DBA terms, they could ‘dismount’ their sarissa’s and become 4Ax on deployment, once their general has seen what type of terrain he will be fighting over...in other words, before they leave camp their commander tells them whether or not to drop their pikes and pick up javelins as they pass through the camp gate to take up their battlefield positions. The DBMM army list for Alexander allows up to 16 Phalangite elements to be either Reg Pk (O) or Reg Ax (O)...but in DBMM you have to make this decision before you’ve even seen what kind of battlefield you’ll be fighting over, which is a bit daft! And I don’t know if Medieval Pikemen or the Swiss should be allowed to do the same (probably not). Definitely a house rule though - I heave seen tourney runners here on Fanaticus state that they won't even allow 'dismounting' elements to do so in a tourney for a match or even be changed from what the player originally declared them at the beginning of the tourney...
