Off the back of Tony’s latest video pitting Attilla’s (Luke’s) LH against Mitch’s Patrician Roman Knights I’ve been inspired to explore the use of LH further.
This has led me to ask a few questions:
Can Allied LH support or be supported by other LH? Obviously they will need to move into contact separately expending separate PIPs but I cannot see any restrictions in Allies providing rear support.
Can LCm support or be supported? Reading page 3 it appears that LCm fall under the umbrella of LH and as on page 11 they do not have a separate Combat outcome I assume that LCm are treated exactly the same as LH and co can provide read support? Indeed this leads me to conclude that LCm also move 4 BW and can make 2nd and 3rd moves in a bound.
So can LCm support or be supported by LH? Again I can’t find any reason why not.
Finally, if all the above is true then can LCm receive rear support in Dunes and Oasis ( that they treat as GG) and further to that, if the situation ever occurred, would a LCm with its front edge in an Oasis or Dune receive support from a LH behind it if that LH was entirely in GG?

I think the short answer to all your questions there are "Yes" Paddy. Light Camelry are just Light Horse that treat dunes as Good Going, and I'm not aware of any restriction on allied elements providing rear support, whether they're Lh, Wb or Pk.

As Attilathenun ( ) says, you are quite right on all counts Paddy. And of course Allies can provide side or flank support as well. However, there is one thing that players frequently get wrong... (as does the Society of Ancients playsheets, which can be found here:- fanaticus-dba.fandom.com/wiki/File:Playsheets_for_DBA_3.0_from_the_Society_of_Ancients_website.pdf )...for flank support, both elements do not have to be in good going, only those receiving the support must in good terrain. “Flank support factors” on page page 11 paragraph 2 quite clearly says:- “Some Solid elements +1 when in frontal close combat in good going against enemy foot if... (supported etc).” So when two Spears are in a side-to-side-group, the one partially in bad or rough going could not receive side support, but the one entirely in good going still would (because it is not in bad or rough going). Only rear support requires that both elements be entirely in good going...not flank support. Thanks for the reassurance that my thinking was going along the right lines.

Ditto to the others comments. After all light camels are just light horse on camels. Can we Likewise say that heavy chariots are just knights riding in Carts. And light chariots are just cavalry in carts. All three types of mounted have alter egos :-)

So which army has most LCm? Strange. I have more than a dozen Muslim armies, but I do not recall any with more that one LCm. Some armies may have allies which could supply an extra element if needed, but you are handicapped by the group move restriction.

You are right Timurilank. There are only 13 armies with LCm, and they all have just one each:- II/22 Arabo-Aramaeans, II/23 Later Pre-Islamic Arabs, II/55 Belemmye & Nobades, II/56 Early Imperial Rome, II/62 Abyssinians, II/74b Palmyrans, III/12 Christian Nubians, III/25 Arab Conquest, III/31, Umayyad Arabs, III/54b Dynastic Bedouins, III/69 Western Sudanese, III/70 Tuareg, III/74b Other Seljuq’s. Note that the II/74b Palmyrans are the only ones that can have a LCm general. 13 is an unlucky number stevie - probably should add the I/6c Early Aramaeans to the list since they were the first to use them (it is optional a CM or a LCM).
And since I recalled that, it got me looking and the II/62bs have the option of 2 LH or 2 LCM giving them the title for 'mostest' LCM...
Now a number of those armies with LCM also have LH as a separate item in the list so could have support.
