Having done the General element and his base I started re-painting the bases of the rest of the army....and my Italian Lombards! ....there is a trend here, isn't there.🤔

I ask because mine were finally painted (after a looong spell on the painting bench) and based a couple of weeks ago, and had a pair of games a week back (Essex 15mm castings, from a v2.2 DBA army pack).

Hi Martin, I used mainly Essex Lombards mixed with Franks and Dark ages Cavalry, plus Lombard archers and Saxon peasants for the Horde element. As for the Spearmen I settled for a mix of Museum miniatures NI02 and NI19 to show transitional change in equipment for the Infantry and make them look 11th Century. I only started the army as I wanted my Normans to look like they were a Southern version of the army but then had a grandios scheme of doing 6 armies for a campaign.Norman, Italio-Lombard,Papal Italian,Byzantine and Early North African Muslim., but I only have 2 and a half armies so far as other armies grab my attention.

Just one more army...I can stop any time I like, honest 🙂. Know that feeling. Yes, the Essex Kn guys are lovely....hadn't thought of using their foot for the hordes. Ended up with Navigator and Essex Dark Ages mix for mine. M

For folks unsure how to post pictures (or more specifically, how to display pictures of their armies/elements via embedded link in the Forum)...see the "how-to" at www.proboards.com/user-guide/posting/inserting-images or by accessing the HELP button above..which will eventually get you to the same place. Pretty much the same as the old Vbulletin Fanaticus, the only difference being you get to work in regular HTML code links instead of having to figure out VBulletin's BBCode.

Hopefully these pictures will now load. As anyone who has clicked on the earlier link will know, these are my newly-painted Guti. Still trying to get up the nerve to do the bases! Attachments:

To help select the best material to cover the bases you may wish to test your options on sample cardstock or wood. This will help you to find a satisfactory colour for ground and which grass tufts or electrostatic grass looks best before taking the final step.
Sealing the base before application of terrain fixtures, especially if using wood glue, will avoid any warping.

Those look like Newline figures. I have a few of those :~) Everyone has their own preference for basing, for those Biblical type figures I like a nice coarse sand. I tend to drop it on over PVA, let it dry and then paint with beige brown, highlight with Iraqi sand and then add a few tufts. I'll see if I can find a few pics so you can see.

They are indeed Newline. I like the poses and the price! I'm also finishing some Picts, so I have two different methods to learn. I'm thinking of using a similar method to you for the Mesopotamian stuff (I've also got an Early Sumerian in the pipeline). I might use roughly the same method for the Picts, but using green rather than Iraqi Sand and then some flock followed by tufts. But then again I might not!
