Finished up my Kushite General's heavy chariot yesterday.
That took ages, as I was not happy with the sculpts of the first and second set of horses, and finally settled on these guys. Just have one stand of bow to do, and the Kushites will be ready for battle!

Preparing my elements for Gaugamela battle with DBA. Scale is 6mm and figures are Rapier. The Persians: I followed the forum advice and double my infantry bases for aesthetics. The Macedonians (elephants as extra because a)I thought they are fun b)I can build a list for a different army. Since the picture, I have added 3 ridders to my companion cavalry, upper left base. I wanted to do phalanxes that look square but the bases are not deep enough or I would have ended up with a puny 9 infantry block. Hardly serious for a mighty phalanx!! In the evening, I will add sand to the bases. Blog is here, if you want to follow the progress. Not sure I will bombard the board with all my work in progress : sixtwentyeight.blogspot.com/

What an improvement. The Tulunid/Iqshidid cavalry are done (8 x Cv, 2 x LH). After lunch, I will start work on the banners, by week’s end – I will post photos to the blog.

Very spiff. Not easy getting that "candy cane" look on their helmet adornments. You pulled it off nicely.

Today I finished another element of Cv for my Mamluk Egyptian as I slowly bring them up to full Purple compliance.
I think I still have one element of Cv to go and then a whole lot of foot.
Cheers

Very nice, paul
For my part, 3 elements of Armenian cavalry - an Essex PA-5 3KN for my Early Armenian 'c' list to replace the Minifig element that is going to the Rshtuni or Bagratids. Then another Essex PA-5 CV (or 3KN) element (on half armored horses) for a future 2nd Rshtuni or Bagratid army. And I found another three of the Minifig ZC-41s four elements already painted and based. Doing a bit more research on coloring for these (after a comment on Fanaticus about dark complexion and black hair - according to one Armenian website it ranges from blonde hair and blue eyes (rare) to a darker complexion with black hair and eyes) I came across a note that the prevalence of red in Armenian clothing was in part at least due to the presence of large numbers of cochineal insects in the region. Which explains the Armies of the Dark Ages note about the prevalence of crimson, red, and scarlet clothing among the Armenian cavalry.
At any rate this batch of Armenians are a bit redder than previous.
Also finishing up an element of Minfig ZC-310 13TH C Spanish knights for another Feudal Spanish army.

If you want the pikes to look more impressive add another base or two at the rear and just take them off it position becomes a problem. I really like rapier figures.

...the prevalence of red in Armenian clothing was in part at least due to the presence of large numbers of cochineal insects in the region. Amazing the things one learns in this hobby of ours. Thanks so much, Goragrad. I then had to drill into Wiki to learn more, e.g. it's the female of this this species that produce the all-important dye.
