Does flank support only work when the supporting unit is not in front edge contact with enemy.
Tried looking through to see if this had been asked before, but didn’t see anything.

Welcome to Fanaticus Shellmax.  No, flank or side-support only depends upon being in good going with at least one flank in mutual side edge and mutual front-corner contact with the right type of friendly element (whether that friendly element is in close combat or not). See page 11 paragraph 2 of the rules. But note one thing that many players tend to forget...only the element receiving the side-support needs to be in good going. It is not like rear-support, where both elements must be in good going.
