The Elamites want to hard flank the Assyrian psiloi with one of their mounted bow.
Just wasn't sure if the mounted bow is allowed to move into contact like that, since it is already in front corner to corner contact with the psiloi.
Thanks!

Yes, this is legal. Joe Collins But a good point. Make sure I got this right: Hard flanking from an overlap position is aok BUT hard flanking any other way has to be from behind the front line of the Ps even if the lh can make it by movement. Right?

No. The LH simply has to be entirely beyond the line of the enemy element's side edge. See fig 8 in the rules. So it can start in front of the element it is contacting, just not directly in front.

Ah you are right. Fig 8 makes it all very clear. Thanks!

What is soft flank? It’s the opposite of hard flank, but I don’t know what it is. If there’s a hard flank then there must be a soft flank. Neither of these words is in the actual book so I’m confused.

Sorry Bob for using terms that are not in the purple book, but greedo hit the nail on the head for what I was getting at.

So "overlapping" is a soft flank. Is that corner to corner overlap, or side edge to side edge?
"Quick kill" is there a slow kill. Are some kills faster than others? I cannot find this in the rules.

Hey Bob, Yeah, again this was phrasing I've heard on other threads but, you are correct, the terminology isn't in The Purple. I've always conflated corner to corner and side edge to edge overlapping as just "overlapping", but I know that now makes a difference with 2Ps ignoring corner to corner overlaps but not side to side contact in 3.0.. "Quick Kill" I've always understood to be short hand for "kill you if I beat you without requiring a double". Such as Wb vs Bd. Also not in the rules specifically, but just a shorthand for that situation. There are of course exceptions such as fleeing Cv, LH, Ps, and killing on ties, but these are definitely the exception, not the rule Chris
