Can anyone ID this Essex 15mm Slav figure with spear and slab-like shield? The link is from a site called, Steve Dean Painting. I can't find this specific figure in this pose anywhere on the Essex site, but, hopefully, I just haven't looked in the right place. There are other, similar figures listed and shown in their Asiatic Hordes Range, but they all have a decidedly more active pose. I was eyeing this rather more stoic looking chap for Khazar Hordes. So, if anyone can list a specific figure-code, I'd really appreciate it.

Don't have a pack to hand at the moment (at my brother's for dinner), but pretty sure it is an old version of HSA-8.
I have some of the spear and of the axemen who are not pictured either (a number still in the original packs with code).
Both are more static in pose. The older(?) axeman also has a single handed axe rather that that newer long handled version.
P.S. I am having a similar problem with older cavalry from that Asiatic Hordes range - telling the difference between Alans, Avars, Khazars, etc. by looking at the pictures on the website is nearly impossible. Of course for their DBA 3 armies they are throwing in a mix of all of the range anyway.

Yep - it is an old version of HSA8. HSA seems to have changed extensively and I too have old versions of HSA packs that look nothing like their current offerings and wonder what to do with them.

I'd have to check with the minis at home but I think I got a couple of them as part of a XMED3 Generic Eastern Peasants pack - which makes sense if it's an older HSA8 miniature.

Thanks for the replies. That confirms what my friend, Eric Donaldson, had suspected as well, i.e. this Slav Spearman was an older version of Essex HSA8. If any of you have extras of this figure, I'll gladly buy them from you. For the Khazar Hordes, I'll likely need around 24 figures, please. (Failing that, I'll reach out to Essex to see if I can do a special order for them.)

I inquired of Essex to see if I could special-order that old HSA-8 figure. -- Here's the reply I got from Essex.
"I’m afraid these miniatures are now out of production and therefore are now unavailable. Apologies for any inconvenience."
So, unless anyone here has a couple dozen of these figures as surplus, I'm outta luck for using that static-posed spearmen as Khazar Hordes.
