In the previous bound, the Babylonians had moved one of their chariots to make flank contact on the Hebrew solid Aux, and then naively moved up a group of three fast bow and a solid aux, leaving that flanking chariot no room to recoil if the Babylonians lost the combat against the solid Aux. The Babylonians won the combat and the Hebrew solid Aux were destroyed. That is why you don't see them in the upcoming pics. (tried attach the pic here, but got an error stating the site had exceeded its limits) web.ncf.ca/ex809/DBA/heb-1.jpgNow, in the Hebrew bound, (rolled a 6 for pips), they moved the General's chariot to make flank contact with the Babylonian chariot, and then moved individually from right to left, the fast Aux, psiloi, and other chariot, resulting in this: web.ncf.ca/ex809/DBA/heb-2.jpgThese moves are legal? And if so, could the Hebrew player have moved the Aux, psiloi, and chariot as a single group, contact the Babylonians and then slide a bit to the right? Does this make sense?

Yes, they can move as a group and slide to the right IF they are more closely aligned in that direction (hard to tell) up to a half base width.
One thing, however, is that the Babylonian HCh would have pursued 40mm straight forward after destroying the bow.

Thanks Tony. I thought that heavy chariots are regarded as 4Kn, and thus do not pursue. I obviously misread the rules, just thought the way they were written that HCh were like 4Kn. Since you have played orders of magnitude more games than I have Tony, I believe you

Just agreeing with Tony. Yes, in the second picture, the Hebrew LCh-Ps-Ax-Ax group could move into contact for a single PIP, then slide sideways as a group to conform - see page 8, paragraph 10, last sentence. (Note that had the Hebrew General moved first into contact with the Babylonian HCh’s flank, then the Hebrew group wouldn’t have room to slide to the left, so must slide and conform to the right)And of course the Babylonian HCh will turn-to-face the Hebrew General, resulting in one big Hebrew group consisting of Gen-LCh-Ps-Ax-Ax in contact with one big Babylonian HCh-4Ax-3Bw-3Bw-3Bw group prior to the combat phase. However, I am a bit confused by the first picture. When the flanking Babylonian HCh contacted the (not shown) Hebrew solid Ax, were the front corners in contact with each other? If not, then it was an illegal contact - see page 9, paragraph 9, item (c):- “(c) in front-edge to side-edge contact with front corners in contact” And, as Tony said, the victorious HCh fighting the front of the destroyed Hebrew solid Ax would have pursued a full 1 BW forwards. So the two Babylonian HCh elements would not be in the positions shown. Some potentially useful player aids can be found here, such as the “Quick Reference Sheets” from the Society of Ancients, and the new “Army List Corrections” file: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Reference_sheets_and_epitomes And this is the latest January 2018 FAQ: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ_2018

Hi Stevie;
No, the flanking HCh was in front edge contact to rear edge of the Aux.
So the flanking HCh should have been nudged up a bit and flush with the other HCh and thus would have had front edge to front edge contact, and also would had room to recoil if they had lost the combat, as it would have been behind the Babylonian line on the right.
My goodness, I really need to read the rules more carefully!

Since you have played orders of magnitude more games than I have Tony, I believe you It is only 4Kn that do not pursue. HCh, 3Kn, 6Kn, all do. There is a thread about it somewhere. Scott
