I am always amazed at all the little projects that swirl around a larger hobby project. My collecting of Dark age Normans is coming to an end. I have enjoyed playing using them in several Lion Rampart/Dragon Rampart games. After playing a club sponsored War of the Roses DBA campaign I got to liking the various DBA style games. My dilemma was how to use my Dark age figures, which were based to the GW standards, for DBA. My solution was to create a movement trays to have units of uniform width. These are all made from balsa wood with much cutting and gluing involved.
I have multi based figures and single based figures in the standard 25mm/50mm and 20mm/40mm convention. I selected for my standard Base Width (BW) a 100mm standard. This of course makes for a big play space for DBA 3.0 of 5 to 7 feet. Luckily for me that table in the image is 8’x 5’.
Please enjoy this small micro side project. I hope to run more DBA style games with my Dark age Normans because of these bases being done.

My son developed an "attrition" version of DBX using these bases: 100mm which is 5 foot (at 20mm per) or 4 Mounted (at 25mm per). He also used multiple ranks. Worked fine and looks great. From this I developed the current version which can use an Base Width (so you can use the big bases that come with RuneWars or A Song of Ice and Fire).
Alternatively you can mount one less figure per 60mm base (so 3 foot at 20mm per and 2 Mounted at 30mm per).
We could easily cover this table in 28mm figures...We post some pictures of our games on the DBA Facebook page.
