I created a document that has two tabs: 1) odds of tying, beating or doubling scores with modifiers ranging from 0 to 8, and 2) the expected results from standard troop-type matchups (i.e. no overlaps, etc.). This document may not be of much use to many of you veterans as you probably have already solid strategies around troop matchups. But for me it's useful to know the percentage changes of expected outcomes so that I can formulate my strategies. Since I created this for me, I figured someone out there may also benefit from it. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Rt-wV79Lt-ilv38A8FG0NOGzcOOWPiF7tlt2XR6Ctdw/edit?usp=sharingIt was a pretty massive data undertaking. I tried to be careful, but with that many numbers, there are bound to be a few mistakes here and there. Please let me know if you see any problems and I'll correct.

I added a new tab with crunchy numbers. I came up with a calculation for Offense and Defense for each troop type. I recognize there are so many variables to this game that you can't boil down to a number. Things like rear support narrowing frontage, bag going terrain, overlaps, etc. So, these numbers are intended to be more from the perspective, "huh, that's interesting".
Here are some assumptions behind these numbers. Recoiling is given a factor of 1, fleeing a factor of 1.5 and destroying a factor of 3. These numbers are based on open terrain, and so bad going troops will naturally not show up as well. Similarly, shooting effectiveness is not factored in, so shooting troops will rank lower than they deserve.
Offense Ranking Troop Value ---------------------- 1 El 1.15 2 Pk(s) 1.13 3 Kn 1.07 4 SCh 1.04 5 Sp(s) 0.92 6 Bl 0.89 7 Art 0.78 8 Sp 0.77 9 Cm 0.69 10 Bw(s) 0.68 11 Wb(s) 0.68 12 LH(s) 0.68 13 Cv 0.66 14 Pk 0.64 15 Bw(Lb/Cb) 0.60 16 Ax 0.60 17 Bw 0.57 18 Wb 0.55 19 Hd 0.48 20 LH 0.43 21 Ps 0.39
Defense Ranking Troop Value ----------------------- 1 Pk(s) 0.25 2 Sp(s) 0.32 3 El 0.43 4 Bl 0.43 5 Sp 0.43 6 Pk 0.62 7 Hd 0.62 8 Ax 0.67 9 LH(s) 0.68 10 Wb(s) 0.68 11 Cv 0.69 12 Bw(s) 0.77 13 Cm 0.80 14 Kn 0.81 15 Wb 0.84 16 Ps 0.92 17 LH 0.95 18 Bw 1.02 19 Bw(Lb/Cb) 1.02 20 Art 1.03 21 SCh 1.72
Combined "best" troops (Offense - Defense) ------------------------------------------- 1 Pk(s) 0.88 2 El 0.73 3 Sp(s) 0.59 4 Bl 0.47 5 Sp 0.33 6 Kn 0.25 7 Pk 0.02 8 LH(s) 0.00 9 Wb(s) 0.00 10 Cv -0.03 11 Ax -0.07 12 Bw(s) -0.08 13 Cm -0.11 14 Hd -0.14 15 Art -0.25 16 Wb -0.29 17 Bw(Lb/Cb) -0.42 18 Bw -0.45 19 LH -0.52 20 Ps -0.52 21 SCh -0.68
I don't think there are any big surprises here. It makes sense that Pk(s) should be at the top since they have to suffer such a narrow frontage. All of the bad going and shooting troops rank below the good going troops which makes sense from a game balance perspective since they have other advantages. I guess the one thing that jumps out at me is how badly the SCh fares given that it is an open terrain troop type yet it is significantly below all other troop types. I guess it's up to the player to determine if this disadvantage is worth the fact that SCh does not count towards the loss condition.

This is very informative and thank you for sharing it....plus the work you put into it.Might I ask why you did not include Wwg or CP/Lit?

Probably accidental bias on my part since those troop types never appear on any lists I ever consider building. I probably should include them along with Camp Followers too.
