Hi all,
Thinking about making the jump to 3.0. Are basing standards the same, and can one buy the rules as a .pdf?

Basing is the same. Sue Barker's version can be had in PDF form. (Also D3H2 and if you want to get innovative with DBX Knights & Knaves). Purple Book DBA 3.0 with full army lists and diagrams is not available in PDF but is currently in print (but grab one quick).
Eventually every designer will hopefully follow Fame & Glory's lead and do rules in PDF format (with free up dates if stuff changes).

I purchased Sue's book about three months before getting the Purple book, so hopefully I got all this right: Sue's book has far less army lists, has no mention of allies, does not have all the enemies listed, and contains no diagrams. That being said, all the rules are there, and from my perspective, far easier to locate things like movement, combat outcomes, etc.. We actually use Sue's book (and the quick reference guide which you can find the link on this forum (Stevie?), more often than the purple book. Sue's book is really good, and if it wasn't for me wanting to take a look at every army, I would have been quite happy using just her book. And the binding is far better, the book has a smaller footprint, and seems easier to lug around. I lent my copy of Sue's book to a friend, and can't wait for him to buy the digital version, so I can get my hard copy back

It has the rules, chapters on painting, building terrain, camps, and 7 or 8 intro chapters to various periods with accompanying army lists...oh...and an example game. Get the digital version as it is in color. The main rule book has the rules, a set of helpful diagrams, and the full army lists. Hope that helps. Joe Collins

I was very impressed with the Purple Book. If you can get it, well worth it. Have not seen Sue's book, but it sounds very good too.
