I haven't showcased an army for a while. So here is my 5th of the year and so I jump many centuries and to a different continent to bring you the Aztecs. Love these guys - so colourful and completely mad.
The figures are Naismith from Navwar and unusually for me I did not paint this army. I bought the figures at the Claymore show in Edinburgh in 1993 (I think.) I seem to remember getting them for a bargain (a perk of working on the bring and buy) - something around £20. They are from a rather comprehensive WRG 6th edition army - which I bought because WRG had this stupid JLS bonus and Aztecs had lots of JLS armed troops so were a killer army under WRG 6th edition. All I have done to these babies is rebase them. All the painting is by a talented Scottish gentleman whom I never met.
This army should be good on the table top simply because you can't kill it. Take the 6 x 5Hd option and you can lose 75% of your army and still be in the game - sure it is immovable but work out the odds of getting lucky 4 times out of 9. The army comes with 3x 3Bd which are particularly effective. 1 x 3WB and 2 x Ps make up the mix. If you want to give your opponent a sporting chance then go for the 6 x 3Ax option but with lots of BG on the table these guys zip around the battlefield to kill Ps and catch flanks. So this army has 2 options immovable and stubborn or fast and flexible. However, I say "should" be good because I have only played these guys under DBA 1 rules 15+ years ago
First the whole Army:
First the 5HD option
Next the 3WB option
...and now looking at the photos I realise I've been a dufus and left out a 5Hd or 3WB - 11 not 12 units. Doh!
