Would be interested in views as to how popular 25mm is now for DBA games in the UK?

I have no 25mm DBA armies. But I do have a number of 20mm armies.
However I use 25mm figures for DB-RRR English Civil War

...my armies are all 15mm but a few people in Germany use the larger scale...

Tom Thomas and I are trying hard to push 25mm DBA here in the states. The new Perry boxes make late Medieval easy for 25mm. Most of my demo games are in 25mm. In Great Battles... Enguingatte and Brunanburh are 25mm... Bagradas is in 15mm.

When I lived in the UK, I had started some 25 and 28mm DBA armies. Sometimes I took a pair to the local club. People did like using them, but the convenience of using 15mm usually outweighed the positives.
Once I retired to this neck of the woods (with infrequent chances to play against human opponents) I hardly used them. In fact, I started a program of converting them to HotT armies.

Only one competition used to be open in the U.K. for 25mm DBA (that I have been to), the English Open, but that stopped 25mm a few years ago.
I know of three (3) people who play with 25mm, but two (2) primarily now play with 15mm.
It is dead to 25mm in the U.K. competition wise, privately amongst friends, an unknown quantity.

The Falkirk tournament, about a month ago, was 25mm, but the organiser supplied the armies (I think). Very rare, 25mm DBA these days. M

I think the reply by Martin shows its popularity in the U.K. very well, he thinks the organizer supplied the 25mm armies.

I know you asked about the UK, but here in Texas 28mm doesn't seem to be very popular. However, I've seen 28mm DBA and BBDBA game demos at the local gaming convention sometimes, and I personally am building all my new armies in 28mm.

I useed to play in 15mm, but have shifted recently to 28mm. I've just painted up a couple of matched 28mm Arthurian armies - one with the 8 bases of Sp, and one with 4 bases of Sp and 4 of LH. I'm working on a pair of matched War of the Roses armies next (Perry's plastics!), and then doing some Darkest Africa Hordes of the Things (probably using Thomas's D3H2).....so yes, there are still some of us that play in this scale.
I have a fair few Warhammer figures based up for HotT as well....
Terrainwise, I have a 3' x 3' Deepcut Studios terrain mat which I use, plus loads of the latex "Field of Glory" terrain pieces....anything bar the largest sizes are legal in 28mm.
Will sort some photos out when I get a mo.
I do have loads of 15mm armies as well (I am a FoG tournament player), but I prefer 28mm for DBA/HotT - it means i can paint something up for the fun of it!

All my armies are in 25/8mm and I used to push the larger size at the English Open events. The game lends itself so well to the larger figures as the army sizes are not intimidating. I have had 15mm armies but I tended to paint them for a competition and sell them after. I do feel like I am the last outpost of the bigger figure. My usual opponent has a number of 25mm armies too.
I have these painted armies - some are on the old Fanaticus site:
Sumerian, Early Libyan, Later Early Libyan, Anatolian, Hittite, Numidian, EIR, Tamil Indian, Macedonian, Ancient brits, Greek, Grenadine, Nubian and I'm halfway through Trojans.

I'm not a fan of the scale personally as I take long enough to paint the little guys.

For visual effect you can't beat the smaller scales especially when doubling up on the figures per base. 25/28mm figures look just what they are - big figures on a small board.

I prefer bigger figures for visual effect. Making bases bigger and putting more figures on them is likely to make it look like there are more figures on the table because there are. We still play on the old 4ft square board with 25mm. I've not changed to 3ft yet, seems a bit constricted.
