This might be a stupid question. DBA 3.0, page 5, third paragraph: " Mounted infantry are based as 3-4 foot figures plus a vehicle, led mount or mounted figure." OK got that!
BUT
I this on a 20mm x 40mm base - coz if it is this won't fit! Should Mounted infantry be based on 30mm x 40mm bases or 40mm x 40mm ones?
I can't see any guidance on this in the rules.

Paddy Page 5, located in the middle of the chart is the line Mounted Infantry. The base depth for smaller (15/18mm) figures is 40 – 60mm.
40mm x 40mm seems to work for most.

I have four Longbowmen in a line with a mounted archer directly behind them on a 40mm square base.
Among the biblical collection are four archers grouped with a flat bed cart; two archers firing from the cart with the others dismounted and this fits a 40mm square base.

Aaaaaaah! That'll be it....4t high, Capitals and Neon Lights, with the foot note "Only and idiot would miss this!"
Thanks Timurilank.
I suspected I was asking an dumb question - but thought it would be under Bow....

Don’t worry Paddy649, you are not alone. There are many obscure little bits of information dotted in odd places throughout the Great Purple Book... ...such as Elephants recoiling from an assault on a City or Fort gate are destroyed (which should be mentioned on the Combat Outcomes on page 11 instead of hidden away on page 12 paragraph 4). Hopefully the next version of DBA, for I doubt that DBA 3.0 in its present form will still be in use a hundred years from now, will have all relevant information grouped together in a more coherent manner. Some potentially useful player aids can be found here, such as the “Quick Reference Sheets” from the Society of Ancients, and the new “Army List Corrections” file: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Reference_sheets_and_epitomes And this is the latest January 2018 FAQ: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ_2018

Have more faith. DBA 3 will be be in use 100 years from now, if the world, close to as it is, exists. Phil says this is his final edition. We still play chess, and it is many 100's of years old. H.G. Wells "Little Wars" is still played exactly as it was written 105 years ago. Some rules endure.
Phil likes to be parsimonious in his writing. The game rules are but 12 pages long. He expects people to read the text in its entirety as a unified whole. The outcome chart says elements recoil from a City if losing. In the text, on the next page, on recoiling we find what happens to elephants that recoil from a city.
How much more coherent could the placement of Mounted Infantry base size be than in the section on Basing Your Figures: between the end of mounted types and the beginning of foot types. Hardly an obscure little bit of information dotted in odd places.
MOUNTED INFANTRY Mtd-X Mtd 60-80 40-60 3-4 + mount

I agree with Bob we are playing with the final edition of Phil Barker's DBA. It will be the same in a 100 years. Phil writes in a stream of consciousness manner - when a rule occurs to him he inserts it - generally this is in or near similar topics (so stuff is on his mind) but not always. Rules for Recoiling through elements are in the movement rules even though he goes to some effort to distinguish tactical moves from outcome results.
We just need to grin and bear it.
