Totally agree that the best games seems to be between two non-optimal armies.

In recent years I think Biblical armies have become more popular and have appeared as tournament themes which have had no shortage of participants...even though the more popular armies have been more prolific. However,I don't think I've seen any I/14 Early Northern Barbarian armies? The old Big Battle army assessment were a good guide to the least popular armies...but I leave it to each individual to choose how far they relate to armies in DBA 3.0...if anything its an interesting guide. legacydirs.umiacs.umd.edu/~kuijt/BBDBA/ArmyAssessment.html

I loved this BBDBA assessment when I saw it back in the day. Wanted to figure out how to create matched BBDBA pairs that would be fun for each side to play. Although at the same time, emphasized the "gamey" part of the game rather than the history part. Thanks for the link!

Given that there are so many armies available to the discerning DBA player Is there an army that NOBODY has played? Barring that, because I'm sure somebody somewhere has built ALL the armies, but how about LEAST popular? And why? Could be game effect, could be minis, could be any reason really. Purely curious I painted up a Nubian army mainly to go against my Egyptians with th 3 Bw ( 8 bases) but have not had the bottle to go against any oppenents as I see it as very weak army

I just did a BBDBA Nubian Trikak as well.
Haven't had it on the table yet, but am hoping the WB give them a bit of a chance against some opponents. That and the fact they are fast troops giving them a potential mobility advantage.

Save the Wb for a counterstrike. A fun army, but the 3Bw general is very vulnerable, TBH. M

As Martin wrote, they pretty much can ignore Rough Going. Won't help against Fast Blades, but then, can try hiding behind a well shaped thin Gully. If the attacker, it's likely to be much harder if the ennemy has some decent infantry. And their Aggression is a bit too high for comfort. But still, quite a unique style, and not a dog at all.

Salutations, gentlefolk !
Back in the last century, painted up a Cyropaedic Persian army under version 1 - 3 x Cav, 2 x 3 Ax, 3 x Scythed Chariots, 1 x 3 Camelry, 1 War Wagon, 2 x Ps. Would drive tourney opponents nuts, but you had to be sure you weren't forced into convex formation - with 4 60mm deep elements, the recoils could do you in. (Note that Scythed Chariots were not 'one-shot' weapons in ver. 1)
Also painted up a Later Libyan 4-horse Light Chariot and a Warband waybackwhen. Reason was, I had a Carthaginian army for the DBM tourney. If I found the 'classical' section of the DBA tourney Sunday morn was full, could take the Numidian psiloi and field Later Libyans in the 'Biblical' section...

I volunteer I/49a Early Vietnamese. No suitable models exist, and a lack of available documentary sources made it hard to figure out what suitable models might even look like. Honorable mention to IV/12a,b,and c. Again, no figures in 15mm so far as I know.

I have seen just about all Book 4 armies, although I would guess that Chanca and Chimu are probably the least popular mostly due to availability (I think they are now made by Khurasan?) and interest in their region. I purchased a Chimu army for my son last year. He thinks that I search the lists for hopeless armies so I have a better chance of winning. This of course isn’t true but rather I was looking for something a little different to supplement his other New World armies. I also couldn’t go past the command post.

I don't think anyone's mentioned III/24 [III/42] Sha-t'o Turkish. It's gotta be right up there for un-loved armies. In our local COMPENDIVM, there is not even a single result for this army --which, of course, makes me want one.

I had looked at the Sha-t'o Turks as an ally for the Later Tang list Paul as they offer more 3Pk or add LH to the Tang army....but I was not attracted to the main army.
