Hoping one of the older gentlemen would be able to answer this one...
I have heard about DBM and the dreaded "Buttocks of death", in which you maneuver an element's corner just behind your opponent's rear corner If the opponent is then forced to recoil, it will "meet" an enemy = instant death.
So why is this tactic no longer a "thing"?
Is that flanking gives you a -1 on your opponent + adds quick kill in the combat? This is my guess. Movement rates have increased, so presumably your element could still perform this move.
Just wondering... I think this one got cured in DBA 1.1 or 2.0 or something, but don't actually know why/how.
thanks! Chris

You used to be able to move so that the rear of your unit touched the rear of an opponents element. Just a corner overlap would be enough as you then completely blocked recoils. (That no longer is a legal move - which stopped the tactic to my memory). Then, just as now, if you won the combat the opposing element would die on a recoil.
Now, you can move to a position to change it - but basically you would need to win 2 fights and that's harder. It's still possible but not such a cheesy way of killing an opponent.

One of 3.0's greatest leap forward was allowing a Recoil provided you could at least start the Recoil. DBMM had a similar but much more complex solution to over use of Recoil Death (even from your own troops in the old days).
Solves many issues.
