I wanted to purchase the Albanian army figures, so I could have a historical opponent for the Serbian Empire army I picked up on ebay.
I am wondering if there are differences between the army compositions found in Sue's book and the purple book?
The reason why I am asking, is that I went to purchase the Albanian army (Book IV/69), from Essex miniatures and their army composition is different than what can be found in Sue's book.
Sue's Book
Albanian Army 1345-1430 1 x General (Cv or LH) 4 x LH 4 x Ps 1 x 3Cb/Ps 1 x 3Ax 1 x 4Bd or 5Hd or 3Kn -----
Essex Miniatures
Albanian Army 1345-1430 and 1443-1479 1 x General (Cv and LH) 2 x LH 4 x Ps 1 x 3Cb 1 x Ps 1 x Ps 1 x 4Bd 1 x 5Hd 1 x 3Kn
I asked Essex miniatures about it (why no Ax and instead the Ps), and they insisted that they are following what is in the book.
I did notice that their description has two time periods it covers, and wondered if this is reflected in the purple book and perhaps has a different army composition than the one found in Sue's book (which is what I have).
I ended up purchasing a set of javelinmen and some more light horse, so I could have an army that is representative of what can be found in Sue's book.

You may want to check if the Essex Pack is based on DBA2 which might have had a different composition for the Albanians (although I would be surprised if the Albanians had so few of their signature Straidoti LH). I don't have my 2.2 book to hand and Albanian wasn't one of my 100 odd armies so I cannot be sure. However there was a significant shift in the composition of many armies (despite the line in the introduction - only 6 of my armies were unchanged, with another 3 being able to come up to DBA3 code by having elements removed or repurposed (in the Javanese the LCh became a CP and the 2x3Bw became 2x3Lb) Otherwise the armies needed work to become fully purple compliance with around 30% needing new elements painted in order to field a legal army again. Only the sort of idiot who would own 106 armies would discover this and my long project to bring them up to code moves with great pace. I have 77 armies fully purple compliant now but that includes 11 purpose built armies and 2 that required substantial rebuilding simply because I got my grubby hands on better figures. Cheers

Sue's list is correct for 3.0. Cheers, Thanks for the replies. Looks as if Essex may need to re-jig their site descriptions and/or their lists, since the army they have under the 3.0, is the one I posted above: Essex Miniatures Albanian Army 3.0

I sent an email to Essex miniatures mentioning that they may want to check what they have listed for the Albanian army. Ironically, I chose the Albanians, as it was the cheapest army of historical opponents for the Serbian Empire that Essex has, but after purchasing the light horse and javelinmen, that is no longer the case for me

Looks like the 3.0 is same for rules and Sue. 2.0 lacks a Cv general, a Psiloi option with the Cb and gives an optional 6Kn. 5Wb=4Hd now Essex is missing 2 LH and an Aux, as noted 3.0 IV/69 Albanian Army: 1 x General (Cv or LH), 4 x stradiots (LH), 4 x archers (Ps), 1 x archers (3Cb/Ps), 1 x javelinmen(3Ax), 1 x halberdiers (4Bd) or peasants (5Hd) or mercenary men-at-arms (3Kn).
Sue: Albanian Army 1345-1430 1 x General (Cv or LH) 4 x LH 4 x Ps 1 x 3Cb/Ps 1 x 3Ax 1 x 4Bd or 5Hd or 3Kn
Essex DBA 3/4/69 ALBANIAN ARMY 1345-1430 & 1443-1479AD Gen Cav or LH, Qty Code Element 2 XMED1 Cv (Gen) 1 XMED4 Cv (Gen) 1 XMED13 Lh (Gen) 1 XMED14 Lh (Gen) 2 MER61 Lh 2 EMED57 Lh 8 EMED58a Ps 5 XMED10 Cb/Ps 2 EMED58 Ps 4 MER28 Bd 5 XMED3 Hd 1 EMED43 Kn 1 EMED44 Kn 1 EMED45 Kn
2.0 IV/69. Albanian. 1x2LH (Gen), 4x2LH, 4x2Ps, 1x3Cb, 1x3Ax, 1x4Bd or 5Wb or 3/6Kn.

Cheers I would love to see those 106 armies! Wow! I am slowly putting the pictures of the newer armies up on various of the DBA Facebook groups
I did put up a complete list on the old Fanaticus board in one of the DBA 3 discussions under the heading of "My Little Sample" which detailed the changes required for the old 106.
When Operation Purple Compliance is at an end I will put up the list again.
But come to Canberra - not only can you see the 106 --> you can use them either in my campaign or I offer them up for loan at my tournaments
Cheers

That would be cool! In November, I am planning to go see a friend of mine who lives in Hobart, and I aim to stay for six months or so.

The end of November will be when I hold one of my tournaments - Landwaster - on November 25th and then of course there is Cancon held over the Australia Day Long Weekend in January (26th-28th) with two days of DBA being part of the plan. Canberra is a bit of a hike from Hobart - especially with the inconvenient stretch of water between Tasmania and the Mainland and I have a sad feeling that there are no longer any direct flights between the two cities. However there are plenty of rail or bus connections to Canberra from Sydney and it is only 3-4 hours extra from there Cheers
