Last weekend I was trawling through the mediaeval reaches of my unpainted lead mountain and found a box of 50+ of these guys. They appear to be HI infantry spearmen in kettle hats, with a quilted jacket and carrying 6ft spears and a small iron rimmed heater shield: www.alternative-armies.com/collections/15mm-medieval-medus-range/products/me10-hi-spearmanI think I probably bought them when Ronald Reagan was president but I've no idea exactly when or why. To my eye they look like some form of city militia so I possibly bought them for a DBA or HOTT mediaeval campaign that never fully delivered. So my question is: What DBA 3.0 Army can I paint up that legitimately uses as many of these as possible in a historically correct army? Paddy

Or maybe one of the Low Countries armies? Replace the spears with pikes....Scots Common?

IV/13e Medieval German (Free Canton) is primarily (9 elements from 12) Fast Pike and I am sure these hip 80s dudes would fit well

Late 13th Century spearman - Later Crusaders have 5 elements of SP and that figure, while more animated, is a ringer for illustration number 12 in Ian Heaths Armies and Enemies of the Crusades.
Of course they should fit any of the other late 13th Century European lists.

Thanks guys - really good suggestions.
I wasn't really wanting to convert to longer spears / pike as I don't think the figures suit the conversion. However, if I am going pike then Free Canton really fits the bill...I hadn't considered then - thanks. North Welsh and Low Countries are a good option - but alternative armies do awesome figures for both of these which I do prefer. Not sure about Scots Common given the kettle hats...but then I could use 40 of them in one hit....but to me these guys look more European than Scots to me.
Later Crusader is probably best.....but I already have one of those planned using Flemish spearmen...but these guys would fit the bill with no extra lead added to the mountain. Hmmmm......choices?
Would these guys be suitable for III/73 Communal Italian, IV/4 Feudal French or IV/23 Feudal English? If so I think that Communal Italian may be a really good place to use up 16 of them.
So I think I have a plan - I'll paint up 32 of then using really basic colours and no definitive shield designs and see what they look like as Crusaders, Italians or French. I'll the just add the shield designs as I see fit at a later date....
