Currently, We (my family) are waiting for our house to close while everything is set in motion for the move. So I had to pack my figures as carefully as I could (I have quite a few I must say) and put them in boxes. Well, the new house won't be built for another 6 months so I have to keep it all in storage till we move in. Then 6 months later I will probably move again for school.
Busy stuff! I have discovered a few things:
I found figures that I never knew I owned and I am really excited to get to them...if I remember.
Lead figure boxes means heavier than anything else.
You feel "naked" with all of your figures not within arms reach.
You (At least me) realize that your "good storage solution" is actually terrible when you have to move it all in a box which will be located in a truck... (I will be buying permanent storage after the move so that I can easily move figures safely anywhere, anytime)
Even the things that you were not so fond of (painting, modelling, etc.) sound immensely entertaining now that you cannot do it.
These few discoveries have left me more active in the rules and organization part of the hobby for now. What is so fantastic about DBA is, after the move out, I can pull out some Gauls and Romans to paint and play thanks to the scale of the system. Hopefully I can make some battle reports in the near future! My terrain selection may be limited and awkward, but it will do.

I was lucky that last time I moved home I had not yet got into DBA or DBRRR. I only had a very small collection of 15mm ECW figures. I would be horrified to move again now as I have collected Ancient, Medieval, Pike and Shot armies and Napoleonic! Moving them would be a nightmare!

Oh my gosh it can bring a man to tears. I have 15mm and 28mm figures in Napoleonics, WWII, Fantasy, Vietnam, Dark Ages and 15mm figures in ACW, Ancients, Vietnam, Eastern Renaissance, Moderns, AWI. Plus decently sized Russian and French 1812 10mm figures...Lots of em. Working at my FLGS for several years, especially since I managed the miniature department, I just couldn't resist a lot of things.

I moved house two years ago, and I'm not sure all my figures have entirely recovered yet, but now we're planning to move again in the next year or two. I don't know of *any* good way to pack based troops. My WWII vehicles live in those foam trays; many of my 15mm troops on bases live in Plano boxes. But a lot of other 15mm troops, and pretty much all my 25s live in clear boxes where they just stand on a flat surface. One can make them a little more secure buy filling the empty space with packing peanuts, but that's an awful lot of work to clear out afterwards. But even preparing for a move that's a while off yet has lots of chores for me. For one thing, there are a few periods where I can resolutley face the fact I'm just never going to paint and play the figures I have, so I can sell them and make moving that little bit easier. :-) And sorting and re-storing other troops for the move produces some wonderful discoveries like crazycaptain560's. Whoa? I have *those*?

We had to move out of our home (which we have been in since 2003) in January due to a slab leak while the house was being repaired.
Luckily, nothing was damaged it was just an inconvenience.
We got back in a few weeks ago, but I have yet to go through all the boxes to find where my figures are. I'm really taking my time to unpack correctly and eliminating any things I had forgotten about/don't use.

I'd moved 8 times in 16 years and learned to store my figs ready for transportation lol. Thats why even today (I've been in the 16th home for 10 years!) I still store my figures in tool boxes or box files. When I worked away I had a small tool box to carry figures I would paint in the hotel in my "down-time".I never had any problem at Airports or Customs.

Found out I in fact do have enough GW Fantasy stuff laying around to do a HOTT Big Battle Haardrada- My goodness! You deserve a medal! Tool boxes eh? Do you have "floating" containers within them? You have me rethinking everything now...

I am moving out while the house is being fully refurbished (badly in need of).
Lucky in that I have a niece living within 20 miles (32 km), two things I have found interesting, the number of DBA figures I have unpainted, more interesting that I have THREE (3) full sets of paints by different manufacturers, where I would expect one.
The field mice object to being disturbed, and I think one has left home.

Why my parents and I have not been killed in the last 34 ish years I do not know. We found a lead gas pipe, partially melted, could have gone at anytime. The original 1935 wiring is still in place, still connected, an electric drill would complete the circuit, and there was NO earth on the electrics AT ALL until two years ago. We found out where the Field Mice came in from, there is a narrow flue to the kitchen we did not know about. The hotel fire at Exeter recently showed the builder and my nieces why we need to put in fire protection between ourselves and next door, one wall is still medieval.

That is the beautiful thing about Florida. You don't have to worry about field mice, because the roaches are big enough to eat them.

Well it looks like I might be in for Christmas, I might only have a bed and Christmas tree, but that is better than nothing.
Happy Christmas or whatever your festival around that time to all.
