Is command distance considered at the start of the bound from the General’s element or does it depend on where the General’s Element moves to?
This happened during a game last night. A Pk General had got fully into a BUA. Command Distance is now 4BW unless for own LH. On the first move the general moved so that part of the element was outside the BUA. This then brought many more element into Command Distance at that point, and they were moved without the additional 1PIP requirement. Is that correct?
Thanks
Peter

I play it that it depends on where the general is at the time that you want to move an element/group. So you might choose to move the general first to reduce a command distance.

That's what we do as well as it add another little bit of tic tacs to the game. Granted 90% of the time we forget about it altogether.

Simon Likewise....so if eg a LH general plans to go haring off over the horizon, he needs to move the troops he'll be leaving behind FIRST. Martin

I would also agree. Note, however, that the penalty for having the general's element entirely within a BUA is that every moves costs an extra PIP. The reduction of command distance is if the moving element is beyond a BUA. I am inclined to think that this would not apply if the general were actually IN the BUA. Scott

As others have said, measure the command distance at the poiunt where you need to move the other element.

Its not really covered in the rules but we (like everyone else it seems) measure at the point you give the "order" to move.
Thanks for pointing this out though as I need to make sure I cover all these points with clear explicit rules.
