This morning I finished the last two stories in 'Chicago Noir 2 (the Classics). Some very interesting stories there. Last night I received a package from Book Depository - and it included the new Osprey book 'The Normans In Italy 1016-1194' which I have just started. Cheers Nice David. I'm still awaiting delivery of my copy from Amazon đ„. Cheers,

Hope it shows up soon Greg.
After my experience with 'A Billion Suns' and your earlier note giving a later publication date for Australians I was concerned as the date ticked closer on my Book Depository Wishlist. But one way or another it was processed and shipped at the right time even though its publication date was shifted back to early August.
I have had the same issue with the latest PB copy of the Robert Fabbri novel on the Successors (To the Strongest) which was processed and shipped shortly after the date ticked over, but now shows as available but with a publication date of November. Go figure.
I finished 'The Normans In Italy' over lunch today so am now reading 'Badass: The Birth of a Legend' by Ben Thompson. This is a collection of humourous retellings of the life of several myths, legends and heroes.
Cheers

Not so much as what I'm reading now, but what I hope to be reading in the future. Today I suggested to Osprey that they publish a title covering English Feudal Armies:1100-1300. Hopefully they'll take up my suggestion.

Today I finished the 17th volume in the Pullus family saga, the Marching with Caesar series, Hostage to Fortuna by R.W. Peake. Another great read following the 3rd generation of Pulli, now up to the Principate of Tiberius and the commencement of the shenanigans of Sejanus.
Next up either another historical fiction, this time by Christian Cameron, or one of Dan Jones' titles that are waiting to be read.
Cheers,

I have just finished 'Badass: Birth of a Legend' - lots of hyperbole and a bit of humour.
I am somewhat dismayed that someone is able to build a writing career in recording the kind of over the top ramblings that mirror the sorts of things I would have said after a few glasses of red in my 20s - but on the other hand it is entertaining and every now and then there is a useful phrase or a factoid I may not have known.
It is mainly my obsessive compulsive collector aspect that I have picked up the two follow up Badass books from the one I purchased some time ago from a discount pop up shop.
Cheers

I spent much of last week reading 'Upheaval' by Jared Diamond - his latest history and environmental analysis.
Quite a good read.
During that time I received my latest consignment from The Book Depository and it included the first book in Robert Fabbri's "Alexander's Legacy" series - "To The Strongest".
I am about 80 pages in after starting it on Saturday and loving it.
Cheers

I finished "To The Strongest" yesterday. A great read. Eumenes gets a good rap from the story, and so I am quite chuffed that it was his Asiatic Successor army I put together from the figures I acquired from Bern's estate.
I am now keen to set up an early Diadochi campaign and so have grabbed an Essex Successor pack (FOG army pack I think) that was sitting amongst the Essex Australia Stock I have been selling on behalf of the principle since Landwaster.
For a change of pace I am now reading another of the Akashic Noir series - this time Addis Ababa Noir
This one should be finished over the weekend all going well
Cheers

I came to the end of "Addis Ababa Noir" on Sunday morning and it was an really good read, (but in no way DBA Related).
After that I picked up the latest in Anthony Riches "Empire" series - the eleventh - "River of Gold" and in this one our band of Roman effectuators is in Egypt ready to confront a powerful army from Meroe. Very good so far (100 pages in)
cheers

"River of Gold" was another great addition to the "Empire" series and includes an authors note on the Kingdom of Kush.
Meroitic Kushite is one of the few armies from that region I haven't made up yet.
It might have to be done soon>

They played havoc against the Middle Imperial Roman army sometime back. Thanks for the book review.

Finally completed High Kennedyâs âMuslim Spain & Portugalâ, having received it as a birthday present at the end of June. Fairly tough going, written as it is for an academic audience, but I took some interesting facts from it.
Now moving onto two Max Adamsâ books âThe King in the Northâ and âAlfredâs Britainâ. Not read any of his stuff, but his style looks similar to Dan Jones and Tom Holland, both of whom Iâve enjoyed hugely over the past couple of years.
