Friend of mine playing Thebans was asking why the Double elements don't get the +1 v Knights, Elephants & Sythed Chariots as Pike in two ranks.

My explanations were not good enough so would some of you experts please explain so I can pass on to him something creditable.

Hello Brian,

in my opinion, the pikes (especially veeeeeeeeery long spears) are only effective (+1 rear support) against special (clumsy or straight forward) enemies like Knights, Elephants or Scythed Chariots.
The double elements of spear (normal length of spears, so more flexible in manoeuvering but vulnerable if hit by a devastating impact of any mounted troops!) are much more effective against all types of foot troops!?
