For those brave souls who are courageous enough to venture into the world of HOTT (Hordes of the Things) I have just received a note from Sue Barker that there is now a hardback edition of these rules available on Lulu. It is the identical to the softcover copy, but the pages are smaller, so there are more pages. I am not familiar with Lulu so cannot comment about it.

Summer is drawing toward its end, schools are starting their new school year, and fall will be here soon. And with fall comes the much anticipated and glorious 2019 Good, Bad and Ugly International HOTT Tournament. Therefore, it is time to let everyone know whose hosting what and when. To date I have the following Legs scheduled.
Coventry, hosted by Pete Duckworth – September/29
North Yorkshire, hosted by Bob carter – October/20
Nashville, hosted by Terry Webb – October/26
Glasgow, hosted by Euan Caldwell – November/5 and November/12 (a two-day event)
Sheffield, hosted by Simon Wilson – November/16 or November/23 (waiting on final confirmation)
Paris – hosted by Claude Chenuil – November/23
The Shetlands, hosted by Mike McEwan - TBA
Atlanta, hosted by Tom Thomas – TBA
Midwest (Michigan area), hosted by Bob Beattie - TBA
Tornado Alley (Dallas, Texas area), hosted by John Hovey – TBA
Republic of Texas (San Antonio, Texas , hosted by Blake Radetzky– TBA
At this time, I do not think Australia or Staines will be taking part this year.
The basic standing theme is to have fun and share a common event with others around the world. This year’s tournament theme is:
Old School
A chance to build an army with the figures you loved as a teenager!
Dig out and dust of those long forgotten Minifigs painted Gloss!
Give 20mm plastics some love!
Or build an army from your favourite teenage Scifi or fantasy series!
Or even just build an army from the original rules!
Or, players should feel free to interpret "Old School" however they choose.
Theme armies are not required to join in, only to vie for the annual Barker Award which is given for the best theme army from all Legs as voted on by the public on multiple forums. Loaner armies will be available if you don’t have one.
In addition to the Barker Award, we will have the Stronghold Award again, donated by Bob Beattie. This is awarded for the best Stronghold from all of the Legs and also voted on by the public on multiple forums.
I am very pleased to announce a new Award, donated by Gavin at Alternate Armies. This Award, “The Alternate Armies Leg Coordinator Award”, will be awarded to the Leg Coordinators, who accumulate points based on defined criteria, and then with a draw from the hat (literally a hat – a cowboy hat at that). I am truly excited about this due to the kindness of Alternate Armies and because the Leg Coordinators are very deserving because of hard work and personal expense they put in to making this the successful event it is.
There is a rumor of a give-away again this year as well, but one never knows when it comes to rumors! However, if it’s true it is very nice and made specifically for the GBnUIT Tournament!
If you have any questions, or want to participate in one of the Legs, please contact me and I’ll get you in touch with that Leg Coordinator. And, if you’re interested in running a Leg, I am happy to assist you with that as well. drover@698@gmail.com
Hope to see you there!!!

Bob, I don't remember about where that fearsome lady was. It might have been that from the angle I took the picture you can't see that she was not actually in contact until the next bound. But, ?? Terry

This past Wednesday my friend Paul Potter came over for some help with a project he is working on, needing some uniform info. After we sorted that out, we had time to get in a game of HOTT, which I always find enjoyable, as I think Paul does as well. I believe his army was a Danish dark ages army (Paul is a master of the dark ages, and his general was a specific person but I don’t recall who). I decided to field a fairly appropriate army – my King Arthur movie Picts. Here’s Paul making a decisive move early in the game. A closer view of the battlefield. Paul had primarily Blades and Warband, while I had Warband a Hero and a Behemoth for some hitting power on my side. This picture is taken form my side and you can see my Hero (Guinevere) and my Behemoth on the right end of my flank. Well into the game, and I have moved one of my Riders and Guinevere to the enemy left flank. I cannot recall exactly, but in looking at this picture I wonder now if I may have violated the rule of hitting his element in the flank? That being, my Rider would have needed to be fully on his flank before he would be attack. it If I did, then shame on me!!! The end of it all. I had defeated 12 points of elements, plus his general, by rolling up his left flank with my Rider, Hero and Behemoth. But still feel I may have won erroneously. True it may still have turned out this way, but an erroneous victory is no victory at all! The fact that Paul seemed to roll an abundance of one’s at critical times didn’t help him either. Regardless, I really enjoyed Paul’s company and the game, and look forward to the next time! Terry

OK, all of the figures are now painted, and glued to their bases. The next step is to do up the bases and paint them, then properly do the Stronghold and it's ready for action. Due to a friend's preference to not deal with clowns, I have two versions. After all, the local guys respect my immense fear of spiders and so do not play them, I can easily understand. Here's the final Warband element - a mixed bag of thugs! Here's option A, with the Birdwatchers. Note the buildings in the back ground. They will eventually be converted into a store on the lower left building and painted up as a lower income area of a large city. Those are 6 MM Leven models and I really like them for my HOTT armies. Here's option B, with the clowns. So, it's on to the basing now!!! Terry

One more element finished, and this actually gives me a 24 point army, so it could be ready for play. However, I am going to do another Warband element. This element is my "Bird Watchers", and probably the craziest of all the elements, but I was always fascinated by these Peter Pig figures, and ordered hem with no real plan in mind. However, once I got into this project I decided...why not! They are very colorful and to keep that colors bright like I did with the clowns, I hand painted the shadows and highlights. They are based on actual birds, that I got from my copy of Peterson's. Left to right, they are - an Eastern Bluebird, a Western Tanager and a Painted Bunting. These guys are played as a Warband. Another element finished for this army - The Beast element, some punks of the "Heart Bleeders" gang with their mutts!! The center puppy is what is called a Tiger Boxer. Had never heard of it, but in seeking info ran across it and had to do that one. Not sure what the other two are supposed to be so I did one as a sheep dog and the other a a black mutt whose owner painted him as a skeleton for Purge Night. More to follow, Terry

Finished two more elements for the Purge - the "Smileys" and the Government Troops. Only leaves three to go, and it's finished. The buildings for the Stronghold arrived, so I'll start working on them too. The "Smileys" - Mercenary troops brought in to help reduce the lower income families so the government doesn't have to take care of them!!! (Told you the scenario of the movies is appalling!!!) Sadly, the smiling faces painted on their Balaclava don't show up very well, but in person it make them very creepy looking. The "Smileys" from a screen shot of the movie. The Federal troops, brought in for the same reason as the Mercenaries. They are basically overall black, but in reality are painted a black-gray, shaded with true black and highlighted with a medium gray and then in a few key areas a lighter medium gray. More to follow, Terry

Hmm, a beauty parlor - interesting? Stevie, I already have Supergirl as a Flier, but Ripley as a Sneaker is certainly do-able. Yeah, love Lucy as a Magician, and dressed in the faded jeans and white tee shirt. I am really trying to avoid too many, if not all of the comic book heroes though, just because I'm not really a fan of them - save Jessica Jones. But then that's because she is so similar to Lisberth Slander. I'd really like to find another femme fatal for a Hero that Wonder Woman, so that would be a big need. Definitely adding Tank Girl in her tank as a Behemoth. I'm doing Lisbeth as a Rider, because she rode a motorcycle, and beyond excellent hacking and research skills doesn't really have any combat talent other than a taser. But she is a must because she is the one who started it all, along with Ellen. I suppose I could do Amelia Earhart as a Flier instead of Supergirl, but like having a figure instead of a plane for eh Flier. Really appreciate your help with all of this! Terry

Stevie, Great some more femme fatals to consider. Mila Jovovich is a good one, as are Hit-Girl and the tank from Tank Girl. Was not aware of Hit-Girl so need to do some research on how to play her, but might be an easy conversion to make her. I gather she is young, not an adult, so should be a smaller figure? Was already considering Tank Girl as I have a spare M% I can convert. Probably won't have her, just the tank.i
Thanks for the additional thoughts,
Terry

Stevie,
I think you will enjoy most of those movies, although I like them all. My favorite femme fatal is of course Lisbeth of the Girl With he dragon Tattoo stories. She is so anti-social and yet good at her trade, fearless, and her looks make for a great looking figure. I do recommend the recent American made movies over the Swedish ones as they seem to do the stoy more justice. Sadly, the stories theme is awful and sad, but Lisbeth is still very cool.
Jessica Jones is a series on Netflix, and very closely seems to mirror Lisbeth in the main character although Jessica is a PI and not a brilliant hacker.
Ellen is just plain awesome in Quick and the Dead. Keep in mind, there are two movies by that name so you will want to one staring Sharon Stone. She play Ellen.
I have thought about both Xena and Red Sonia, but they are farther back in time than I am wanting to go. I'm trying to keep it more modern, save for Ellen, being from the old west.
if you watch any the movies/stories, etc, let me know what you think.
Terry
