I am very pleased, and excited, to announce the newest Leg of the annual Good, Bad and Ugly International HOTT Tournament. It is the Paris Leg, coordinated by Claude Chenuil. This brings us up to 13 legs in five countries.
Welcome Claude and the Paris Leg gamers!
This tournament is held on various dates in the fall, usually running in October and November and is probably in its 16th year now, and 7th year for being international.
Anyone interested in running a leg or just joining in playing let me know and we’ll let you know the requirements or the Leg nearest you.
The theme this year developed by Mike McEwan of the Shetlands and Euan Caldwell of Glasgow is “Old School”.
Old School - A chance to build an army with the figures you loved as a teenager!
Dig out and dust of those long forgotten Minifigs painted Gloss!
Give 20mm plastics some love!
Or build an army from your favourite teenage Scifi or fantasy series!
Or even just build an army from the original rules!
Or, some are interpreting it – “back to basics” i.e. orcs and wizards and men and hobbits, etc. a la Tolkien as an example (but not restricted to Tolkien).

Ladies and gentlemen, and children of all ages, I am pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Barker Award and Stronghold Award for the 2018 Good, Bad and Ugly International HOTT Tournament. Fortunately, I did not have to vote this year, but it was looking close because there were some truly excellent candidates (I only vote to break ties)! So, without further ado, the winners are: Best Theme army Benedict Sharrock’s Greek Myth Army, Bakewell Leg, UK Best Stronghold David Crenshaw’s Samurai General’s Compound, Nashville Leg, US My sincere congratulations to Benedict and David, and they are indeed very well deserved. My sincere thanks to all players who joined in this year’s tournament, and I hope you had fun and will join us in 2019. A special thanks to the Leg Coordinators around the world who truly make this event happen – without them it would never exist. Bob Beattie, Bob Carter, Mike McEwan, Euan Caldwell, Tom Thomas, Simon Wilson, John Hovey, Tim Moore, Victor Jarmusz and Blake Radetzky I also want to thank David McBride of Splintered Light Miniatures for his very much appreciated on-going support of this tournament. The theme for next year’s tournament has been announced: Old School - A chance to build an army with the figures you loved as a teenager! Dig out and dust of those long forgotten Minifigs painted Gloss! Give 20mm plastics some love! Or build an army from your favourite teenage Scifi or fantasy series! Or even just build an army from the original rules! So, if you’re already a HOTT player or just wanting to learn it, come and join us in 2019. If you’re interested in running a Leg let me or any Leg Coordinator know and we’ll give you the details necessary. The primary focus of this tournament is to have fun and share a common theme with fellow gamers around the world. Terry

Gentlemen,
I took a different approach to setting the theme for this annual tournament, and am assigning two of the Leg Coordinators each year to come up with it. This year it was assigned to Mike McEwan in the Shetlands and Euan Caldwell in Glasgow. if you've never tried HOTT this si a good time to jump right in. Don't have anyone to play with, we have Legs in 4 countries and 11 locations, so let me now if you are interested and we can see what's closest to you.
Here's what they came up with and I think it's a great approach.

To vote for the late entry army just do so as "Late Entry", as I am not able to add it to the poll.

To follow on with the Best Stronghold for the 2018 Good, Bad and Ugly International HOTT Tournament, please vote for only one entrant. The Stronghold to be considered, must be owned by the player but need not have been created by him, and would be the one to be used where they to be the defender. The contestants are, in no particular order: Samurai General Compound Greek Ruins Minions Giants Kitchen Mesoamerican The poll will be open for one week, and at the end of the week I will announce the winner after calculating the results from the numerous forums the polls are on. Thank you for voting and helping us determine the overall winners in each category! Terry

Hello world! Yes, it is time once again to cast your vote for the best Theme Army and the best Stronghold from this year’s Good, Bad and Ugly International HOTT Tournament. There are some really awesome and creative armies to consider, so it is going to be a tough decision this year! This year’s theme was Land of Giants, which required an army to have at least one Behemoth element. The rules for being entered are that the player must own the army, but does not have to have been the one who painted it. Without further ado, here are the candidates in no particular order are the Theme Armies (The Strongholds will be in a separate poll). Please vote for only one Theme Army. Greek Myth Army Greek Myth Army Minions Army Deep Dark Forest Samurai The poll will be open for one week, and at the end of the week I will announce the winner after calculating the results from the numerous forums the polls are on. Thank you for voting and helping us determine the overall winners in each category! Terry

For those who are not familiar with DBN, here is a great video by Alex Testo - one of the developers, along with Bob Carter. Alex shows all of the different troop types and gives some insight into how they play and other informative bits. I've played DBN since it was first released and I still learned a few things. Plus you get to see some of Alex's great figures. I will add that Alex uses he optional double rank basing, but I prefer the single rank. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKiv4xScF2kHope you find i t interesting as it is well worth the time to watch it.
