Ah yes, a peculiar appendage. I don't know of any other manufacturer who makes such a figure.

I'm away from home at the moment so don't have any reference books to hand - could you remind me of what the Heath illustration shows?

Take a look at QR Miniatures figures (Poland). With a weak pound they will cost more than formally, but lovely figures. The infantry really look like they have multi layers of clothing and the detail is excellent. I had very good service from them several years ago when I made a very early Early Polish, an early Polish and a very early Early Russian. They are some of my favourite figures... and the medieval crossbow men...Wow!

...and what happened to Arnaud's elephant circus? - placed second in a string of recent open tournaments.

'Doing a Colin' - Not quite the DBA reputation I was hoping for, but I suppose it's good to have a talent of some sort.😂

How did you lose that match up, Scott. You must have been really unlucky! This is the first time I have seen a player field a Granadine army in an open. Stronger in 3.0 but still not a top army. Well done Mark.

An excellent turnout. Congratulations Pete; yet another victory! Only sorry I could not make this one Simon. I look forward to more detail.

Just emerged from the wilderness and can now add a little to this thread. The Zanj Revolt army is surprisingly strong as a DBA fighting force and great fun to play with. It is also easy to build, particularly if you have lots of figures left over from other projects. The army in the photo was made entirely from left over figures. As there are few illustrations of Zanj warriors I turned to pictures of Abbasid warriors and imagined what the Zanj would look like with various captured pieces of clothing and equipment. This means you can use anything from loin cloth clad Biblicals to fully armoured later Muslims. I've used figures from Essex, Donnington, Museum, Two Dragons, Outpost, Magister Militum, Navwar and probably some others - whatever was in the box and would look right. Skin colours ranged from black African to tanned Arab. The artillery piece was plastic in square cross section and balsa. The horde figures were queried above - I imagined them as agricultural workers, so used anything in a loin cloth or tunic and trousers. I also made some sickles from hammered brass rod. There is a Zanj banner on the old Fanaticus site which is easily downloaded. Hope that's of interest.

Thanks for a great day, Pete. The format was fun and further reminded me that I don’t know the rules. To improve the day for me you (or your successor)need only add another game – I was back home in Portchester early enough for the family to say, ‘What are you doing here?’
And, whatever happened to Station 360? Check them out on Youtube singing their song ‘The Optimist’ and you might recognise the guy doing the twiddly bits on the guitar! Not all rock stars go to an early grave; some retire and take up HoTT and DBA!!

Hi Pete
Having missed the recent Staines HotT competition through ill health (congratulations on your win with another fine looking army) I’m really pleased to see this note and very much hope to attend. Martin sent me an email yesterday saying it was on and it brought a little joy into my slow recovery. Hopefully we will have a car full from this area, possibly with a new player!

I think Lindon was revolting Sumerians 'T was fun. 5 excellent games. A lot of deviousness, especially from my two esteemed Early Egyptians opponents: you guys have found a very good "feature" (I don't want to reveal here). I took the revolting Guti with Elamite Ally. I really liked them! 5x3Bd+4x3Wb+3x3Bw makes for a decent balance. I thought that they would be able to cope with enemy terrain (with Agg3), but not always, as enemy Ps on steep hills often proved nuisances, and there are still many tricks that can be played with the terrain rules to disadvantage the attacker. I think I'll be back to minimising the Agg for the following tourneys. All my game were very good though, often ending in 4-3/3-4 (+vast quantities of hordes...) I thought engineering 5 blades from that list was quite devious, Arnaud. I haven’t talked with Martin since the tournament, but it will be interesting to compare notes. Hd are really useful in Biblical games, with few Kn about. Martin’s attack in the final was lead by two 7Hd elements – how often do you see that? One of the photos above neatly shows his attack around the edifice with half of his army on the other flank completely out of it. In the cramped and muddled melees in Mark’s rear the Hd elements didn’t mind having doors closed on them and losing the fight, they just kept going. Lindon used 1/1c Colin

Finalists Mark and Martin had a tremendous game, with Martin charging round a central edifice with little more than two Hd elements who generated all sorts of mayhem including capturing the enemy camp. Mark was on the back foot calling in units from all over including the camp followers and narrowly gained the win. Meanwhile the massed bowmen of both sides sat and watched. DBA is not a spectator sport but that was a game to watch.
I think I may have gained a record – two consecutive tournaments without a single game won. No complaints about the dice yesterday and the Early Egyptians certainly gave some of my opponents palpitations particularly with two of my littoral landings, but I couldn’t quite take the four elements before mine were taken. Even destroying all six of Claudius’ Hd elements and a couple of other elements couldn’t get me a win as his warband general scythed his way through my army. I did play one poor game where I could have sat in the dunes and frustrated Lindon’s pikes and heavy chariots but came out and died, but the others were close and great fun.
Thanks to PAWS

Martin is correct, many of the Naismith infantry types have the broad brimmed hat and the whole range is based on Greer.

Nice series of head butting photos here.
Quiz question. Tony’s T-shirt depicts the single ‘Anarchy in the UK’ by The *** Pistols – in which year was it first released?
