Joe - I think it's why the rule exists..to me it makes no sense Simon - thanks - if I look at it as "this is somewhere you don't want to be" then it is easier to get it I think... My ‘view of it’ is that as your unit approaches the screaming, spittle drenched, shield and sword waving mass of antisocial humanity to its front it finds it has to somewhat focus its attention....not just ignore the aforementioned threat to life and limb and waltz past whistling. 😊

I've been doing some opposition research, looking for eligible armies that have artillery. Any hints, Macbeth? I am a little confused by your research Chaotic. Are you looking for an army with at least 4 Warband AND Artillery?
I am toying with the idea of an army with at least 4 Warband AND multiple Bow. I am not sure it would work out, but hey it could be fun! Tupi?? ( ....or not Tupi, that is the...- I’ll stop there...😶).

....obviously never been to Glastonbury...... I suspect Phil has been to Glastonbury, but not for the music, Indeed (me neither....🎸)...was thinking of the stage more than the actual edifice 😊

Phil was not too keen on Pyramids in England...or other such silliness... That was primarily at what this was aimed. Joe Collins ....obviously never been to Glastonbury......

Am I correct that an edifice - an 'isolated large building such as a Amerindian pyramid etc etc' has to be less than 4BW total if you want to use it as your camp? So a 2BW x 2BW pyramid - I've seen bigger.... Correct. The rules author was not keen for players to use stone structures for camps (which many of us did/do). He seems to have felt that effectively transporting edifices around as an army’s camp/baggage ‘looked wrong’....however, to pacify those of us modellers who wanted such things he ‘allowed’ an edifice to be ‘converted’ into a camp. Previous debates suggest that this can only occur if by chance the edifice conforms to camp size requirements AND you’re lucky enough to find the edifice in a legal position to act as a camp on your base line (or waterway edge baseline). In practice you’d rarely find an opponent who would object to you using such a model of an edifice as your camp, without it having been a chosen BUA terrain feature, just so long as you didn’t try to insist upon it having edifice properties, too.

Hi Martin. When I said any date, I was referring to the venue. Not clear there sorry. I'm already avoiding Coventry, an Agincourt event in October and Warfare 😳 Know how you feel...arranging Alton DBA has always been fraught with potential clashes....either with Salute or Society of Ancients Battleday. I was half-comsidering rescheduling Alton into Oct/Nov, but am still wary about planning an event which will be squished at the last minute.

Hi Pete A lot of flux with dates and whether anything will ‘happen’, I guess. On Simon Wilson’s site, derwentgamer.wordpress.com/dba-hott-tournaments-in-2020/ , he posted a calendar of all known DBA and Hott events in the UK. This includes (ie not yet officially cancelled) :- “ October tbc English Open Portsmouth Bill MacGillivray October tbc Bakewell Matched Pairs Simon Wilson Likely to be 2nd or 3rd week in October“ English Open has usually been last weekend in October. Looks like your proposed date wouldn’t clash with either of the two events listed. Martin PS - tentatively interested, with due consideration of how the plague scenario develops

Just built a fort, not sure about using the gate. Is it the only way in and out, unless attacking the fort ? Yarppp ✔️✔️ . You can assault over the walls, but you have to leave via the gate.

Greg, the Australian Tourism Board would NOT approve.....Cold? Rainy?? Nope, we non-Aussies will cling on to our perception that it’s all blue skies, barbies N beer, 25-30C every day and suntans are obligatory ...😎 Seriously though, looking forward to seeing the CWg, when conditions allow 👍 Martin, we all don't live on Ramsey St. or in Summer Bay 😏. Cheers, There are OTHER parts of Australia??!! Now I’m confused...

I've finally finished the figures for these 2 elements. Next up is the wagon for the CWg element, but I won't be able to paint over the next week as we are on a mini road trip. Cheers, Yesterday I assembled the wagon for the Anglo-Normans' CWg. I was hoping to undercoat/prime it today. However, the weather is not being cooperative for spray painting, too wet and cold. Hopefully tomorrow. Cheers, Greg, the Australian Tourism Board would NOT approve.....Cold? Rainy?? Currently reading the DBA forum thread on threat zones, it is leaving very little time for anything else. Is it one of a trilogy? Would you recommend other works by the same author? 😶

Maybe future competitions should be played behind closed doors with piped crowd noises and various chants: "Where were you, where were you, where were you at Granicus? Where were you at Granicus?" "Who throws all the ones, who throws all the ones, Colin O'Shea, Colin O'Shea he throws all the ones! (Though I think that chant is a couple of seasons out of date now) "What do we want? - "A six" "When do we want it?" - "Preferably in a crucial combat" etc, etc. NIce one, Mark....very Pythonesque 😊

Couple of points
It has been said / suggested in this thread that there is ‘no limitation on the free sideways slide...‘ . But isn’t it ‘the minimum possible, in order to line up’? P9 - ‘One party moves the minimum distance to so conform’.
Previous comments about being in two threat zones:- WAAAY back, it was stated (poss by Joe?) that moving to attack either element whose TZ your element is in was specifically allowed (unlike in Hott, where the move is only permitted towards the nearest/minimum distance), as Mr B. had resisted suggestions that the Hott rule should be used (?).
