With the current shut down of tournaments and competitions, what are the plans for the SOA DBA League this year? Tricky one, this. There have been 5 events held in the league so far and, if we get back playing face to face in, say, September, it may be possible to run the Bakewell event, the PAWS autumn event, the English Open, and maybe a rearranged Alton Pairs, to give 9 events in total before the season ends...? P.

The championship games are still posted and it has been agreed two virtual matches per opponent can be used with players consent.
Only thing I find when doing em on Skype is the one with the actual figs on their board need to offer a bit of advice like you cant quite see but if you meant that to be out of 'Zoc' ( I know I just like it better than TZ ) you could move it a few mill to the left or doing it slightly further forward both would be in ZOC.
Takes away some of the beauty of the finer points of the game, not that I am as skilled with my placement as some of you fine chaps. I like the look on your faces as I place a chariot in combat down hill in bad going. He must have a blooming cunning plan, those who play me more than once realise the truth of course.

Two different competitions here.
First, there is the DBA League, which is sponsored by the Society of Ancients (SoA) and is open to anyone who takes part in an eligible DBA competition. As paulspier says, there have been five rounds so far in the current season: last year's Tarrington Tourney and Winter PAWS; the Welsh Open in January; the Bakewell Winter Warmer in February; and the Northern Cup in March. The League standings would normally have appeared by now, but I think pawsbill has been a bit busy recently.
Separately, there is a SoA Championship for SoA members only using any set of rules (DBA, DBM, L'Art de la Guerre or whatever). The Championship table is up to date with games played and, as Baldie says, can include games played over Skype or whatever.
Just to confuse matters, the results of any games played between SoA members at a DBA League competition can also count towards the SoA Championship.

Thanks for the clarification.
As Paul says, as there has been 5 competitions already and the chance of some more towards the end of this year, (though if furlough has been extended to Oct it doesn't looks as if the Govt thinks Social Distancing will have ended by then) there is still a chance it running as normal.
As you take your 5 best scores and there has been the opportunity to play in 5 tournaments that seems ok.
I wonder if it's possible to run a socially distanced tournament?!

It may be by then that we’re operating some kind of ‘Swedish style’ system, where groups up to a certain size are permitted. Unlikely, maybe, that full on shows are back running, but groups up to 30 may be possible, for instance... 😄 Bakewell, Alton and PAWS events could all fit within this model.

Just a suggestion, maybe a silly one but it might be of use.... If there was a way that a competition could be played on the on-line DBA and it could be monitored for results... could some competitions go ahead?

Several reasons, but primarily because it was based on version 1 and never moved with the times...

But had it still existed might it have been useful to enable some competitions? It could have at least relieved some boredom. Lol

I suppose having already had 5 competitions (being the number of competitions you can count towards your score) and with the vague prospect of a few more in the Autumn there should be no reason why the league shouldn't stand this year, but I was just interested to know whether it was going to count or not?
Is it up to the SOA to decide, as they sponsor it?
I'll join Haardrada and suggest a silly idea - that all future competitions are played at neutral venues with supporters banned!
Seriously though, I was talking to Simon yesterday about the feasibility of running a competition with current social distancing or a more relaxed form of it (1m instead of 2m). He said he would only need about 10 people to make hiring the hall in Bakewell feasible. Keeping it to reduced numbers would allow a greater spacing between players both at the same table and between tables.
I suppose there are a number of things you could insist on to reduce the risk, but at the end of the day it would be down to individuals to decide whether to risk attending or not.
Can't really see it happening in the next couple of months at least.
