Don't do it David! You'll only regret the lost hours devoted to reading such crap. Cheers, Sadly Greg I am already too far gone for having persevered through the first three books of this travesty - I had the first book recommended by a young wargamer and found it in a remainder bin, the little warbands gave me book 2 as a Father's day present and I picked up book 3 secondhand before I started book 1. I felt obligated to read the first two at least and then was in too deep and read the third. After that I stayed strong for the better part of a decade. Cheers

Excellent Greg
I will take your list as soon as you wish - any time before the start day is good.
I will set up a spreadsheet for the draw this weekend.
The sooner you get your list in the greater your chance of winning the jelly snake again
Congratulations Fellow Tribune Cheers

I had read just enough of "The Gods of War" to be committed to reading it through yesterday. The first instalment of my Mega Order from the Book Depository was waiting on my doorstep when I got home After giving me hope of improvement in the first couple of pages Iggulden has turned back to trash. Pompey is fleeing Italy with the Senate in tow for Greece. But he is embarking from Ostia!!!!! I must persevere Cheers

I finished "Bloodline" this morning - a somewhat anticlimactic ending. It is meant to be part of a series but when I look at the next two books as they are catalogued on Library Thing it appears that they are prequels.
As my order from Book Depository has not yet arrived (shakes fist) I am continuing my task of working backwards through my Library Thing Catalogue and reading the as yet unread. However the next cab off the rank would be the last of Conn Iggulden's 'Emperor' series - but as I have yet to read book 4 (acquired many years ago) I had best read that one first.
So with some trepidation (as longtime readers of Fanaticus would already know my opinion of Iggulden and his Roman Setting) I have started "Emperor: The Gods of War" this morning. I must say that the opening paragraphs giving Pompey's speech and justification of the Roman Senate leaving Roma and heading off to Greece is well written. We'll just have to see how well the rest of the book holds up against what I am sure will include many historical inconsistencies.
Cheers

I think it is better to pick an army you can love when it loses - so you are not tempted to have a blowtorch party at home shortly after the inevitable game with bad rolls dampens your enthusiasm. That said in my experience Dismounting Kn/Bd or better still Kn//Bd armies are a deadly prospect so long as the organisers don't put further limits on this You can also pick an army that has low aggression and an odd combination that works perfectly in your chosen terrain - two specific examples that worked for me Sung Chinese (now it is the Southern Sung) where you can set up a "Valley of Death" for your Art and Cb and (hopefully) blast away a significant portion of the enemy before they get to contact Christian Nubian utilising Dunes or Oasis to feed your Camels through whist your Bows and Warriors exploit or hold the flanks that they are best against All this of course comes undone if your opponent sets terrain Cheers

Today I put the finishing touches on another element of Breton Cv as that army rapidly approaches Purple Compliance.
Moving them out and replacing the strip with another from the array of figures need to bring armies up to code means that I will have the first two strips of my Early Serbians in the Undercoated tray.

Before the end of last week I finished "The Devil's Cup" it was a slow rambling story designed to tie up all the loose ends in the 17 book saga, and took a very long time to set the scene.
After that I picked up "The Prince and the Pilgrim" by Mary Stewart who took one more of Mallory's Arthurian stories and set it in Sub Roman Britain. All in all a good retelling.
I am now reading "Bloodline" by Katy Moran set in Early Anglo Saxon England - it is okay but not grand. Again I hope to have finished it before my Book Depository Order hits the doorstep

Hi Martini Each element counts itself in the going it occupies. The attacking element is in good going so fights as if in good going. The Ax is in bad going but is not affected by such going. If instead of being Ax the defending element was say Sp then it would count as being in bad going and fight with the -2 penalty - but the attacker would continue to count as fighting in good going. In a previous edition of the rules a mounted element fighting opponents in Bad Going would also take the effect of fighting in bad going, but those glorious days (when I could keep one toe of my Cm in the sand and cause my Kn or Cv opponent to take -2) have gone. Cheers

This morning another nibble for entries - so that would be 16 players if there is no game day attrition (including myself bringing the numbers up to even)
There are still a few of the usual suspects lurking out there that I am hoping to hear from

Yes, as soon as I saw some of these painted figures at the Eureka Stall I had to have them. This is what inspired me to make up the army, although my own efforts fall far short of the picture you have shared

Today I finally finished an element of 4Kn for my West Sudanese - these are the exquisite Eureka figures and are heartbreakers. I had to take my time putting in stripes of various colours and then dabbing a bright colour (yellow or white) into the triangular shaped patches. I feel your pain David. I am leaving the cavalry until last in my army West Sudanese. Painting them is a daunting proposition! And I'm not doing the full list, partly for this very reason .... lack of commitment, I know.
Fortunately for me Peter I had finished the DBA2 version of this list some time ago so whilst there are a lot of elements to paint to bring this one up to DBA3, the back of the army (including most of the mounted) was broken many years ago. They have been blooded, I used them at DBA with a Twist some years ago (Play Your Cards Right) and they did quite well. I also took them to a Southern Battlegamers Matched Pairs event vs the Christian Nubian, but they clearly outclassed the Nubians.
The other good news is that having boneyarded several elements of 3Bd and 3Ax from my original Sudanese army I have made up a b list Abbysinian for sale
Cheers
