Ah, but as to the swine, the operative term for the Marionites is Christian - you know whose army they will be joining in the future. We are going to incentivize that with some nice hams, bacon, and roast pork... Joking aside, the Crusaders were not a great advertisement for Christianity in the middle east; local Christians were not given any special treatment, and I think I've seen that many became Muslims in reaction to the Crusaders. I'll take not of that; my Numidians in BBDBA need to avoid running into such unsporting behaviour! I think horde are better en masse than just one or two; certainly one 7Hd with a mobile army like the Syrians doesn't seem a lot of use; it might be useful if it was with some other solid foot. I can see it getting left behind. The horde option of the Early Crusaders might work. I'm planning to do a bit of early medieval horde that is not a bunch of peasants with agricultural equipment, rather unarmoured spearmen; a number of lists have them, such as the Communal Italians. They'd also be good for campaigns if you created the option of emergency recruiting for defensive battles. Anyway, I should get painting... I've got the Syrians, and some Later Carthaginians. My spear are getting upgraded to veterans (Corvus Belli). I've also got some hairy Libyan cavalry that have a lot more character than the Phoenicians I have at the moment.

I must say I really like the Paulisper’s suggestion of not moving the second LH. I do too. I wasn't sure if the rear rank wasn't required to conform too.

Would have been tempted to fight as if overlapped or just moved front LH into combat...couldn’t then close the door P It was Benny's move, so he moved the Cv into contact first; conforming happens straightaway (it's not entirely clear, as the rules don't specify two individual elements and conforming, but as Benny couldn't and I could, I conformed), and then the LH was able to overlap or even close the door.

After a long delay, here's a report of 'Browny-con' in June this year: hesperiana.wordpress.com
I'm keen to hear if anyone has encountered this situation:

Those ghulams are pretty, but how well are they going to handle my KN? As to the Ardath militia, they haven't met my 5HD pilgrims... At this time the Crusaders don't exactly have a 'camp.' but what they have is tasty. When the army set out knowing that an army travels on its stomach and of the dietary foibles of the opposition, they brought along the swine. Currently then there is a field with the swineherd and his charges - not sure those Bedouin and Turkomen will want to take a bite of that... The ghulams are planning to set the Bedouin and Turkoman light horse onto your knights. The pilgrims would be well matched against some mutatawwi'a. The real question is whether your spearmen are all 7Hd or not. That would make for an interesting army! I'm sure there are some Maronite Christians who could help with the pigs; the trouble is my painting has slowed as I've been putting polyurethane on furniture instead.

Great looking camp setting. Enlarging the photos I noticed the detailing; stains left from burning oil lamps? Nice touch. Yes, the wash is pretty untidy; I've found trying to fix big spots only makes them worse. Perhaps they're researching the use of naphtha. Nice Syrian camp Commiades. I've got some Essex Syrians waiting in the lead mountain. I just finished the 2 x 3Ax I needed to complete my South Welsh army and the 10 x 3Pk needed to finish Owain Glyndŵr's North Welsh Army. Frustratingly for 2 closely related armies, III/19b and III/19c, the army lists don't share a single element - so a bit of a slog though 29 archers and 30 pikemen. More frustratingly - what I thought would be a quick army to paint needed a lot of highlighting work on the cloaks to make them stand out. I'll post photos when I can. Thanks. I painted North Welsh a long time ago using Feudal Castings figures; I don't think I have a full South Welsh army, but I have painted an extra Cv for a South Welsh ally. Fast pike are a lot of fun.

Very nice looking camp. My Crusaders would enjoy looting it... Such calumny! More troops are rushing to refute it. Here are some ghulams: Your Crusaders haven't figured on the stout resistance of the Adhath militia they have to get through to get to the camp; nor have they thought that their own camp will be a tasty morsel for the Bedouin and Turkoman LH. More pictures here: hesperiana.wordpress.comI'm hoping to get the whole army painted this week.

Interesting repor - with pics - on The Miniatures Page about a Pyrrhic army at the BBDBA Conquest competition in New Zealand. It was posted on Thursday. I've never played BBDBA so it was nice to see lots of pikes on the table. Thanks, I did post about it at the time here (Hesperian Battle Reports), but didn't do TMP.

A bit late to the thread, but very nice work on those Mitanni. They will be a reference in the future when I paint up my miniatures. Hopefully mine will turn out half as well. Thanks, they're a fun army.

Top to bottom , HNH 7 ,HNH12 , HNH 13 Thanks; you're right. They are HNH13. I bought the figures over a year ago and the details are clearly rusty.

I've written a couple of quick reports. The first is to a Biblical DBA Day last year at the Auckland Wargames Club: Good report and photos. Concerning the river, from the first photo it is legally placed even if close to the centre line.
No, I mean my LCh shouldn't have been deployed in it facing up the river.
