This sounds great. Can't really do that with DBA on this continent, though.

You say that but the wonderful Terry Webb (HOTT player and organiser who often posts here) is organising a Stones River re-fight (using a DBN variant) for my upcoming USA trip which will include Nashville. Watch this space. So it can be done - sort of. Really looking forward to some stateside gaming. Failing that Tony make a trip over to the UK visit me and we will sort it. I am very fortunate (living in the UK Midlands to have dozens of battles in a 90 minute drive.

Are you based in Durham? One of the down sides to the potential move for me is the apparent lack of DBA/HOTT played in the North East. I will need to paint some C14 knights some of my WOR archers would do but I will need to bridge my current gap between 13th and 15th century nobility

I am glad you enjoy it. I still haven't made it over to Europe for a vacation, but I'm afraid that in a couple of years when we ARE planning on going it will be on a Spain/Italy cruise. Seeing how my wife hasn't gone to Europe either, and our vacation time is very limited, I don't think playing DBA in the Old World will be in the cards anytime soon.

So I'm guessing it is even less likely seeing you rock up to any of the Canberra DBA comps in the foreseeable future
Pity that - I'd love to see your well painted Nan Chao on the table
Cheers

Oh no, have you seen where Australia is on a globe? The real problem is not the distance, or even the cost, but the vacation time required to make such a journey. It seems that many employers are quite stingy when it come to vacation time here in the States. In all seriousness it would be wonderful to visit Oz one day, especially since it seems like a nice place and I'm rather fond of those that I have met from there.

Nice report - as noted before, they leave one located in the New World envious of the opportunity to do this.

This sounds great. Can't really do that with DBA on this continent, though. There are armies listed for what is now America, and the Pacific. See below. There are not histories as good as those for the Wars of the Roses for these armies fighting each other. Yet there could be Eastern Forest Americans against the Mound Builders. TV shows about the Mound Builders suggest that culture might have had contact with the Aztec. Perhaps Hawaiians had contact with North Western American peoples. Lots of information on the South American wars. I once did an interesting pyramid tournament "New World Dominance" fanaticus.org/discussion/showthread.php?t=10344David Shepps won, leading his Southern conglomerate against the Northern Coalition. AMERICA (& the Pacific) III/22 Maya 600AD-1546AD. III/41 Chichimec & Pueblo Cultures 800AD-1500AD. III/59 Toltec. 930AD-1168AD. IV/ 9 Eastern Forest American. c1100AD-1620AD. IV/10 Mound Builder American. c1100AD-1701AD. IV/11 North-Western American. c1100AD-1770AD. IV/12 Hawaiian, Polynesian or Melanesian 1100AD-1785AD. IV/19 Tarascan or Toltec-Chichimec 1168AD-1521AD. The consideration there Bob is that the sites of any of those battles are unknown or at least not readily accessible.
That makes traveling to a particular battle site to re-fight using DBA moot.
Although for DBR one could head to Mexico City for an Aztec vs Conquistador re-fight.
As to the Mound Builders vs Eastern Forest, I looked at a new alternate history novel where Rome didn't fall and in the 12-13rh Century invades the New World. After his legions are wiped out by the Mound Builders the Roman commander helps them defeat an invasion of their lands by Eastern Forest tribes.
Apparently book three will be the Mongols heading East from the Pacific Coast. More of a HOTT campaign than DBA though as the Mound Builders have gliders...
