A series of DBA games this week which has seen four games against a range of Celtic armies. It seems this week everyone wants use Gauls or Galatians! Here are a couple of photos of one game. Both with the Romans fighting desperately. Additional photos, from a different game, along with a brief summary can be found here: ancientwargaming.wordpress.com/2018/06/17/galatian-migrations/

I haven’t posted here for a a few months, life being just too busy. Now with some normality returning I thought it timely. After several weeks travelling last Tuesday my Antigonid Successors faced Jim’s Polybian Romans in pitched battle using BBDBA. It was our first DBA game in four weeks and our first BBDBA in some time. Unfortunately, and despite a break, my generalship has not improved. The pike phalanx had mixed success driving in the Romans, but was not fully engaged. Demetrius was wounded leading his companions gloriously (or incompetently depending on the historian) while the Greek elephant herd was decimated...

This evening my Wars of the Roses English campaigned against Medieval Germans using DBA. A stirring encounter with much trickery by the cunning German commander. A German breakthrough seemed set to secure a victory... However, English resolve stiffened. Soon the German mounted fell to the English longbow, determined billmen & Edward IV’s dashing reserve. Another great evening of DBA.

Last night Edward IV was engaged in battle on the Continent, this time against the French using DBA and our 15mm figures. A challenging but entertaining encounter if ever there was one! A brief description of events, along with a few photos can be found here: ancientwargaming.wordpress.com/2018/10/17/edward-on-campaign/

Good report and photos. It will be interesting to read how the English plan to overcome this setback. Yes, it will. Currently Edward is in deep thought and reflection on how to overcome “Louis the Spider”. It won’t be easy!

Demetrius Poliorcetes this evening campaigned in Bactria against Diodotus’ Greco-Bactrians using BBDBA. The armies deployed opposite each other late in the afternoon on a generally open plain with only gentle hills and areas of scrub breaking up the area. Diodotus manoeuvred for advantage on the flanks where he planned to envelope Demetrius’ army. Meanwhile Demetrius sought glory in the centre with his stronger phalanx. Attack & counterattack followed as the two commanders sought slender advantage over the other. The much anticipated breakthrough by Demetrius’ elephants failed while the scattering of Diodotus’ army caused significant command issues the Bactrians. It was almost dusk when the phalangites finally came to grips with their opposite number. As darkness finally enveloped the field neither could claim victory. A fine game and excellent rules refresher as we prepare for a local BBDBA event.
