There is a brief article on my Ancients blog, there was a link regarding the games under the photo. Unfortunately, I didn’t take as many photos as I should have. I tend to forget about taking photos when I’m under extreme pressure.

Tuesday found my Wars of the Roses English engaged again against the Hussite heretics. This is the second game against my opponents new Hussites and again it provided a challenging game for both players. It’s fascinating that all these years of playing DBA that a change of armies, this time with the use of Hussites, can provide such a range of challenges. Above, from our first game a week or so ago. Below, a photo of our more recent encounter, this time it must be summer as the grass is very dry! All this make me wonder what new DBA armies have people got planned for 2018?

New armies for 2018? I am still awaiting delivery of the Biblical armies from Black Hat Miniatures.
This should arrive this week and will add Hyksos, Nubians and a second command of Old Kingdom Egyptians to the collection. Eureka Miniatures plan their release of their Sumerians in May/June so this will create a brief pause for this early period.
In the interim I will return to the ‘Migration to Kingdom’ project. The Merovingian Franks were recently completed and I will add the Bretons to round off the armies needed for a campaign set in the 6th and 7th century. I am still attempting to unravel the dynastic links, feuds, alliances among the Merovingian kings.

It has been a while since I have posted pictures of our DBA games. Last night our Punic Wars armies took the field with the cunning Carthaginians invading the Italy twice. The Romans, defenders of the democracy, faced them in the open field where they and their Italian Allies defeated them in short order. Well it wasn’t that quick. However, after some reverses the Roman skill in the field, supported by the gods, delivered victory.

Great look! What is the playing surface? Certainly looks like grass! Jim Hi Jim, the playing surface is a section of Citadel or Games Workshop mat. I chopped one up for DBA a while back.

I've heard of them. They have a mythical nature on the internet. Never seen one up close but do wish they were re-released.
Cheers

Two very interesting games last night where my opponent used his new Early Achaemenid Persians against my Athenians. The Persians invaded Greece and twice they marched on the Athenians who offered battle on the coast. In the first the Persian foot struggled to halt the Greek phalanx, indeed the deep ranks of the Persian centre (8Bw) collapsed almost immediately. However, reforming from defeat the Persians recruited Greek allied hoplites and invaded again. Deploying their mercenaries in the centre they awaited the Athenian advance. Now the Athenians faltered, especially in the centre, a result of the clash between hoplites. Now, despite a series of reversals, the Athenians reformed and pressed their advantage against the Persian right wing. Under increasing pressure the Persians finally collapsed. Two excellent games for both players which highlighted interesting troop types and the strengths of the rules in an historical setting.

Nice report and love seeing the Tin Soldier Hoplites! What did you use for EAP? I'm looking for something to match up with my Tin Soldier miniatures, as they seem to stubbonly refuse to extend their Persians!
Cheers

I'm looking for something to match up with my Tin Soldier miniatures, as they seem to stubbonly refuse to extend their Persians! The Persians aren’t mine I’m afraid Jim. My opponent had recently purchased them secondhand and it was their first outing. I believe the army comprised several manufacturers, but thought the figures on the 8Bw bases matched the Tin Soldier figures reasonably well.

I'd say that the Persians are Irregular Miniatures.
