This may be easy. Figs 19c, 20a and 20b refer. If we have an2 element column of LH as May fight with +1 when supported, if that column is flanked in close combat as per 20a1 and 20b are both elements of LH lost on a recoil. The reason I ask is that in 20a1 and 20b the full side flank of the rear pike and rear Ax are contacted by the flanking Sp and Wb. With 2 LH elements the support element will only have the front part ie 10mm contacted, and the rest will stick out the back, with no flank contact. Would be similar with CV or Kn caught in column. Are both LH elements lost on a recoil or just the front one in combat as has the full flank contacted?
Thanks Phippsy

Hi
Yes, last section of 'Destroyed Elements' on page 12 says: "An element that has an enemy front edge in contact with it's side or rear edge is destroyed by recoiling, being pushed back, fleeing or being in a column whose front element is destroyed"
It doesn't say anything about how much of the side edge is in contact so any amount will be enough to destroy it.
Cheers Mark

One of the game issues that presented a problem to the new rules was what was called residual contact. This occurs when after a combat when one element was in Flank contact with two enemies and one enemy is left still in contact with the attacker after the front element is destroyed. And example of this is An element hitting the flank of two elements who's front element is in frontal combat. If the front element is destroyed, what to do with the second element? After hundreds of messages on this topic back-and-forth among the developers, Phil finally decided to just kill off the second element. So now there are no occasions for residual contact. All elements Contacted on flank by an enemy, Are destroyed when the front element is. That is usually just a single element, but it could be two, if they are shallow elements such as pike or blades. This is perhaps another good reason to mount all figures on 20 or 30mm deep bases (for 15mm or 25mm figures). If this is done then no more then two elements can ever be hit in the flank.
